    THE NEXT DAY THREAD, October

    Whats a blowie?

      THE NEXT DAY THREAD, October

Ah Shepy - allow me to elucidate. The Blowie is a blowfly. a rather large and very loud fly. It is common throughout Oz but particularly in rural areas. It's claim to fame is that the female likes to lay her eggs on meat and within a relatively short period of time (approx 8 hrs) the eggs turn into maggots and start to chomp the meat. At an Oz bbq, someone is always on blowie patrol and food must be covered at all times.

Of particular interest to yourself may be the following: Blowies love to lay their eggs in the dags (small pellets of poo adhering to fleece) around a sheep's bottom. The little baby maggots then make their way onto the actual skin of the sheep and start eating into the flesh. This condition is known as 'fly strike" and the sheep are considered "fly blown". If untreated, the sheep will die because they are literally being eaten alive. Even if treated, that particular clip of fleece will be ruined.

Of further interest - "fly blown" and "maggoted" are further Aussies euphemisms for pissed as a newt, drunk as a skunk or the more genteel tired and emotional.

      Glad to be of help.
(Guess that stuff doesn't happen to sheep in L.A.)

              ahh the old blowies.
We also get the dreaded March flies up here in the north, they are biggish for a fly but they bite! Sometimes attracted to blue clothing, but when you smack them they play dead for a few minutes.
As kids we learnt this real quick, after they would re-bite you, so we would pull their wings off.
Ahhh nice warm aussie childhood memories ... thanks tawny!
              :thanks:
MWO is a blessing, thank you.

Hey Mr G, I am very excited for you and can hardly contain myself re the stack & the recording! Looking forwards to hear how you go.

Ah sweet childhood memories indeed? the dreaded horse fly - size of a small rodent - memories of traipsing through the bush at Mt Macedon with bracken switches at the ready to duel to the death with those buggers. Knock em out of the air and stomp em fast before they?d come right back atcha. Twas the only way. The very sound of them can still strike terror into me! Oh how traumatic :upset:

Now I am flabbergasted? Sunday television has reached an all time low. Now I will admit that playing computer games can be fun, but what could be more mind numbingly boring than watching other people play videogames on TV?????? Aaaaaaaargh!

Mozzie season has started off with a vengeance over here. Luckily I don't live in an area troubled by Malaria.

It would be interesting to see if they're less interested in me now that I'm not a walking vodka dispenser...

Fick's, I had an absolute feast with the Marshall stack. This particular amp has a really sweet sound when combined with my axe de jour. Another 30 day's is a good idea, you know? There is no actual way that you can regret it, non? Non.
