Hi everyone! What a crowd we have :h It's going to be a busy month, for sure. Much to do for fall and Halloween. I also plan to start Christmas shopping for the grands. I am starting the month by making a new schedule for my supps, like a page in a day timer if I were working a job would be. So, I guess this is my new job. I cannot quit because I will loose my benefits. Have a blessed day everyone and stay close - no matter what! :wings:

OctSOBER Challenge
Hey all,
I have to admit that this is my birthday month too (Sunday), and I have been trying to decide whether to have a glass (or two) of wine on my birthday or not. So Miss October has further inspired me to NOT do it. I had already made that decision truthfully, but a little reinforcement goes a long way for me. A sober birthday...wow.....bring it ON...........

WELCOMES...
When I started this thread I had no idea that soo many folks who jump on board and be with me for an AL free OCTOBER...or as the lovely ANGEL later named it OCTSOBER. I am so delgihted with day one. There is already so much support and positivity amongst everyone. Pat yourselves on the back just for that.
WELCOMES then to;
HDB
FINDINGMYSELF
MISS OCTOBER (how appropriate your name is).
Also we have some great wisdom coming through.....what is clear is how much we all have to do this month and want to do without feeling the ill effects of AL.
HELPFUL THOUGHT?????
I am reading a book called Embracing Uncertainty by Susan Jeffers; some of it is very useful, some not so much, one has to be selective. But last night I read something that inspired me. It was not meant to be an exercise to help with addiction or cravings, but somehow it resonated with me....here it is...
She is talking about how lots of BAD NEWS...i.e from the media is not good for us emotionally as we then worry about it. She points out that there is never any GOOD NEWS from the TV. She also states one has to be aware of what is going on in the world. She thus suggest the principle of thinking about a window separating you from the TV. Imagine that it filters the bad new, whilst still allowing you the facts of the matter;
Further or alternatively, she suggests imagine yourself in a light bubble and that only the facts can permeat this.
WELL....I tried applying it to AL. I imagined the window like the one in a taxi and saw myself in different situation where AL might be present. I saw myself standing there and a sheet of glass appearing between me and the drink to separate us. I was there and so was it, but we could not be together. It works too if you see yourself in a social situtaion or whatever is your AL time and imagine you in the bubble and the AL outside of it.
Try IT. I think it works. The imagination is powerful....ALL FEEDBACK gratefully recieved...whether positive or negative.
WELL I am off to fill in drinktracker with a ZERO for day one....then cook dinner for Mr Moo and the PARENTS!
LOVE TO ALL"The greatest thing in the world is not so much where we are,
but in what direction we are moving."

OctSOBER Challenge
Hello all you beautiful peeps! It's fantastic to see so many jump in and take on the challenge. Over my time here at MWO I've noticed that the people who come here and get involved, in 99 out of 100 cases, are smart, friendly, and eager to help others in need. We've just taken the wrong path somewhere, and lost our control over something that didn't seem that big a deal in the beginning. We woke up one day and realized there was an elephant in the room, and it was pink at that! If we had a problem with the engine of our car, or one of our children became mysteriously ill, or our roof developed a serious leak, we wouldn't wait around, debating if it was a problem, trying to find a way to just live with. But it's rare for someone to realize without warning they have an AL problem, and then immediately take the right steps so that they never have a problem again. We go for years, in denial, in hope, in drinking, until we are forced to face it. There's power in numbers, gang. Let's all use our power for good!sigpic

OctSOBER Challenge
October, one of my favorite months of the year. The weather is crisp, clear; humidity low and sunshine not yet down to the annoying stage low on the horizon. Everything seems to be getting ready for a nice, long, rest, and gives out its finally bright, colorful sigh as it settles down. This is the time when you smell the spicy sweetness of the falling leaves; the intoxicating smell of the otherwise hated kudzu; the ripening muscadines. If you're lucky, you may find buckeyes ready to shed their hulls. Apples are crisp and juicy, huge mounds of deep orange pumpkins line the country roads. It's time to decorate for Halloween when the giant black and yellow spiders weave their webs across the spans of your porch, and to begin thinking of the foods you will prepare for Thanksgiving. Some stores already have their Christmas merchandise out, but I avoid it till December, so I don't spoil my love of the season by starting too early. These are things I sometimes missed because of AL. Never again, I hope. The feelings, memories, tastes, sounds, smells are too precious to lose another year.

Yeah ! Feeling Good !!
Good Morning Everyone !!
What an awesome feeling waking up with no hangover on your birthday ! :happy: I am feeling really good and real confident about tonight. Friday night pizza without any wine on my birthday. I have my head in the "right" place, and it feels good.
Last night I started reading a book I ordered "Drinking, A Love Story". I was glued to it, but I had to put it down so I could get to bed. I'll recap some of it when I complete it. I wanted to start reading the book a couple of weeks ago, but I was just too busy drinking wine.
Moo, thanks for your imagination about you in the bubble and AL on the outside. I liked that. That's showing him.
hdb thanks so much for the good wishes for our birthdays. First sober birthday coming up :bday6:
Free bird, I'll be thinking about you on Sunday. You can do it too ! I'll be at my mom's celebrating 3 birthdays. The wine runs freely with my family. But I will have none, and I will not be crabby because I can't have any. I want this month totally AF so bad I can taste it.
rubywillow, I love October too. It is a very beautiful time of year and such a cozy month. Sweatshirts, blankets, all the warm stuff. But this year instead of cuddling up in a warm blanket with lots of glasses of wine, it will be with a nice cup of hot tea !!
Have a geat day/evening everyone. It is so good to be here
Best wishes to all for a AF OctSOBER, Miss O.Miss October :blinkylove:
