Rain in My Heart Documentary
Excellent and reality check
Thank you, I made it through the first one (1 of 10) and decided, I do not want a drink at this moment. The last part of the first film was a shock to me (walking, smiling) and then the drunk driver crash and it was like a bullet. That was a firm splash of reality.

Rain in My Heart Documentary
Hi startingover - geeez, I watched this when it was originally broadcast in the UK, how dreadfully sad. Its heartbreaking how it can take lives away if its not addressed soon enough. Its an excellant documentry and I hope it got some kind of recognision for the "scabs and all" way it was filmed. Thanks for posting it and giving others an opportunity to see it - its very upsetting but well worth it everyone!
I watched the "Do I drink to much" that I taped last night (and yes of course I bloody did), I expected something similar to Rain in my heart but its was nothing like it. In fact I found it a little disappointing, not at all hard hitting and more of a tongue in cheek view of alchohol, we need much more of the real effects of alchohol depicted in these documentaries and I was very surprised to hear that 20% of people in the UK drink too much! my :bum: you are telling me that only 20% of adults drink over 14 (for a woman) or 21 (for a man) units per week, I just don't believe that its got to be much higher! I think some surveyed are telling porky pies!! - its the most evil thing if it gets a hold of you, its devious, selfish, nasty, unsociable and has the ability to strip away all you love, live for and all you have worked for I dispise the tosser (sorry) at the moment!
Anyway less of my ranting! I am glad to report that I left the b*stard (sorry) and am 19 days A/F today!

Wow, I wanted to watch the first part just to see what it was about then couldn't stop watching it.
I can't believe these people allowed themselves to be filmed. How very brave. I look at Mark and Vanda and see what was me just a few years ago. I would never have allowed anyone to film that - it was too painful and humiliating.
I am glad they did permit it though - this needs to be seen by more people. What a powerful film.
It's funny though, all the health scares never put me off at all. But I will watch this when I feel tempted and remind myself that just like Mark would be huddled up in a duvet, puking my guts up, shivering and crying if I went too far back down that road. Been there, done that, how hideous.Recovery Coaching website

I have just watched the update programme (thanks for posting Oney)
It makes quite depressing viewing. Only one of them is still sober (Mark) Vanda is drinking heavily again, but it does show, that its NEVER too late to quit. Mark was at deaths door, he is now a healthy young man again, still working at his sobriety, still getting help but he has a promising future ahead of him and he seems happy.Living now and not just existing since 9th July 2008

pretty bloated/messed up in the end of the original doc.
I can't seem to open the link for the followup, so thank you startingover for the update.

I shared this with my husband and some of my friends and it was definitely a reality check for everyone. My husband does not drink more than maybe one or two bears a month or maybe a shot of brandy on occasion, but I don't think he'll be enabling me much anymore. My friends are horrified, and after I posted this to my FaceBook page, I had about a jillion eMails from people who are struggling or lost a family member to alcohol or have someone they are trying to help—I never would have guessed!!
Really, this videographer deserves an award. Big time. It is SO hard to watch, but I watched it once blitz bombed and once sober, and I think I have the picture now ... Finally. I mean, intellectually, I know these things, but we get SO good at lying to ourselves, don't we?

Thanks so much for posting this - timing is everything.
I watched 4-10 first thing this morning and then this afternoon it was just back to me being on my own and I started thinking that I could handle a drink about now, but thought I'd just better come visit here first.
I just watched 1-3 and got my wake up call and reminder why I want to be sober and the urge has disappeared.
Thanks again :-)I'm not a flip flop - I'm a Jandal!:undercover:

Jandal, thanks for that, I agree Grimmers, he does deserve it...
Does anyone know how we can make this a "sticky"? It seems to have been so helpful to so many its a shame to lose it in the threads.Living now and not just existing since 9th July 2008
