Have a friend who has a friend who just killed himself while going through withdrawals...SO sad and scary at the same time. I say that because while I don't have bad wd's when I stop drinking, I have been that sad before. Really makes me think of how it affects the ones left behind. And that doesn't just go for actually killing yourself, but not living up to your potential as well.

I absolutely agree. I was only here a few days when someone directed me to this. That was it for me. I watched it with my husband, and tho it was VERY difficult, the reasons that make it so difficult to watch are very reasons we need to stop.

It's the best commentary on the effects of alcohol I've ever seen. The other ones were all bone dry scientific facts and medical visuals that did little to harden my resolve. The human suffering not only of the victims but their families really drove it home.

I only have gotten through Part 3 so far. Boy is it hard to watch. I am so lucky to just be a run of the mill alcoholic in recovery. Sobriety is good!

I found this documentary very early on in my sobriety and it shocked me to the core.
I have watched it a number of times since both to keep me strong and realise the cost of severe alcoholism.
Now I am working with some people that seem to be in a similar position of Vanda and Mark. Yesterday I saw a man cry, he was drunk, hed spent the night in hospital, hed argued with his wife, he said "I am at my rock bottom now" but yet he still needed to drink. Heartbreaking.
I really hope that everyone watches this. This is a true picture of where we will end up if we dont put the brakes on our drinking.

I've just looked at these - it is awful. I've s close family member who is almost down and out - once they had everything and now nothing. Another close family member if very near to very bad ill health and is being monitored by doctors - fear has always kicked for me and made me stop - perhaps I'm just a coward at heart. Made up mind a few days ago to do AF in November and looking for a November thread came across this posting - thank you - I'm going to see if at least one of my family members will look at it - it might save his life. I've not done too badly in October but have now had a bottle of wine every evening for last week and whether it was because in my messed up brain I'd made up my mind to go AF in November I don't know. Am looking for a November thread - does anybody know if there is one yet. I can't believe it was August I last logged on. I really need a break - you know my family history is bad - some haven't made it and some have.

I think there will be a number of November threads starting about now. One of them being NoBender :-) Its so easy to get back into daily drinking isnt it?
