    ARMY thread 23 October 2009

The plan is not to drink, but I'm not sure if that will happen. It's still very early days for me, but the social life here is always based around alcohol. I can't stay in like a hermit for ever, but I'm not sure about my self control. Any tips anyone?

Hiya opes, thanks, they will be a lot more interesting in a few weeks, at the moment the pups remind me of squeaky limpets
It's time I put my big girl pants on. :grannypants: I hope they fit.

this time around I just told everyone I was having 2 months off alcohol, now no one even asks why I am not drinking even though I've done the two months. If you are having urges and don't want to drink you might have to get outta of there quick.

          Starty will have some ideas

For me I stayed in during the early days, just until I was more confident.
If you cant do that, then make sure you eat well before you go out and decide in advance the soft drink you are going to have. Oh and practise asking for it in front of a mirror. Sounds daft but.....
Also, I never thought I would enjoy sober socialising, surprisingly enough I do now, more so than before. But it has taken some time to get to that point.
You can do this Minnie and this is one thing that you WONT regret doing.

Oh yes, and MOST important. Have an exit plan ready, so if you feel uncomfortable at any point, you can be out of there in an instant. Very important that....

I think only one person has commented on me not drinking at the pub anymore. They said surely you've done two months by now. and I just replied "I think I'm going to keep going". At our greyhound meetings (at the pub) most people don't drink, the last meeting we had even the drinkers ordered soft drink for some reason

Thanks for the advice Zeppie and Starty

I have stayed in until now, but I really want to see people again. Living high up in a large city condo can be very solitary (even though I've got a lovely hubby) and the way of life here is to be out and about. I agree that telling people I'm off alcohol for a couple of months sounds good. Unfortunately I am too well known for my drinking for it to go without comment!!

                          Hey, all

                          Just a lightning-fast fly-by visit.

Re young Tips being the smallest: dynamite comes in small packages!!!

Minnie: drink somethnig like a rock shandy or lime & soda. They look like drinks, taste quite nice. And have an exit plan...

                          Later, all.
                          I'll do whatever it takes
