How to fill in those long Winter AF evenings

I was looking through the posts, and came across one that suggested making a list of all the things we can do, especially for those just starting, and those starting all over yet again, that we can do to fill in what used to be 'drinking' time. So here is mine...and feel free to add all yours.

Reading. Re-learning how to knit again. Learning how to use the PC! Having time to really talk with hubs and children. Watching movies. Going for a drive to appreciate the seasonal changes. Getting back to going to Farmers Markets. Cooking different things - I look up recipes during the day when I can, and then shop for the ingridients in the evenings. Chat on here.

So.....what do YOU do to fill that emply AL space?

Oh, Cathy! How I would some empty time. LOL But I understand what you mean, of course. Breaking habits is a big part of it. And keeping your hands busy. The old adage "Idle hands are the devil's playthings" is so true.

      Hey Cathy,

I've been enjoying the farmer's market more these days too. I don't always succeed with new and interesting dishes, but putting good food into this old body makes me feel good about myself.

I'm enjoying reading once again, have taken some time to do some fun - very amateur - photography, drawing/painting, and just enjoying a more regular routine of taking care of myself.

        Hellooo,

Just climbed out of a pile of knitting and cross stitching.

Now I'm AF I find I haven't got enough hours in the day.

I'm re-reading old books. De-cluttering the house.Spending far too long on here.

And if all else fails chocolate and back to back CSI episodes (how very sad).

        Love Jackie xxx

AF since 7/7/2009 and loving it!
It could be worse, I could be filing.

There is nothing sad about watching back to back episodes of CSI!

JackieClaire - I am constantly baffled by this myself! The days FLY by now and I never seem to have enough time to do all that I would like to. Where on earth did I find the time to stay drunk most waking moments and never do ANYTHING????? Oh well. I guess that will just stay one of life's great mysteries for me...

I too like reading and cooking and farmers marketing, although that is over in my neck of the woods for the winter. I recently bought a few jigsaw puzzles and set up a "semi-permanent" card table for them. I have a puzzle dumped out so any time I walk by I can hunt for a few pieces that fit. That's something we usually had going in in the winter when I was a kid, so it brings back pleasant memories in addition to something to keep the hands and mind busy!

EXERCISE!! I have become addicted to Endorphin Power. :b&d:

Looking forward to getting some new ideas here!

I am studying a course at nightschool.
I am also wondering where all the hours go? I used to be so bored all the time when I was drinking, its weird, I am rarely bored now and yet I thought being sober would have been the most boring pastime out! How wrong I was :-)

Hubs is on vacation this week, and when he gets home in the pm each day, he wants my undivided attention (very jealous of MWO). I need vitamin shots to keep up - we just got back from the home improvement store (again) and headed back to rental to finish up for the day. Later, gators'.
