THE NEXT DAY THREAD - NOVEMBER

Yep, I'm with ya Bridge, except my two girls (who actually do pull their weight) are pretty mad at him most of the time.. dealing with the 2-3-4 way arguments is mind bending! I do try
But is does make me think.. about everything as a whole - I am not just dealing with 'my' issues... it is a long line of stuff handed down from my side of the family and theirs. If I can't get a handle on myself then how am I gonna help them get a handle on themselves? What a HUGE responsibility.. and that is forgetting the washing & garbage etc. whew!
What if they end up with addictions etc. It makes me want to be more politically pro-active and force some sort of sense into the healthcare system to make helping people dealing with substance issues &/or depression less marginalised.

No conspiracy my love...you simply deserve it...
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Oh and hello Mr Tips! sometimes posts appear later than others for some reason.
Bridge.. I have memories of my father, who was a veteran and suffered the black dog.. he never went crazy or bashed us or anything.. he just nursed his pain, took his daily dose - the beer in those days was called "Courage" and there was a saying "women cry, men drink". That was the culture and I suspect is still existing amongst us all. I have been told many times by friends in times of crisis 'have a drink and pull yourself together'. there it is. hope we can change it for our children. It is up to the few of us here that actually recognise and talk about the fact that it is not healthy.

Good job, the both of you

Its tough. Mine's 12 (boy) and 10 (girl), and I have a fantastic partner in Mrs. T.
            I'll do whatever it takes

NOW you're talking , my friend. I have only JUST (in the last week) started thinking about this. Looking through old family letters which reference alcoholic activities, realising that it goes WAY back, and that indeed we may be genetically predisposed to this thing. Not to mention other familial issues....tendencies if you will ??? Christ Almighty..WHAT have I given to my kids ??
I think we need a MUCH more proactive and well rounded approach to dealing with identified addictions. Councilling....medication.....lifestyle enhancement....meditation...physical therapy.....
                Well now I AM preaching....

Ahh tis good to know Mr Tips and Bridget, we all have a boy of 12 so can compare notes.. my youngest girl is 9 going on 21 so I suspect you can help me out there too Mr Tips.

Is very hard without a partner but then a bad partner is WAY worse than no partner.

                    You know, Bridge...

My father is also an alcoholic, and so was my aunt. My brother was here this weekend. He is as normal as you can get (boring, actually). We are two very different products from the same shared childhood.

None of us can predict what will happen to our kids. ALL we can do is prepare them to the best of our ability - which you're already doing.

But do not live in fear of what MIGHT happen. Its just not worth it.

Puberty is rearing its ugly head... Although the breaking voice is the source of much mirth in the House of Bounce :H

Raising girls are tough, though. You really are from a different planet...

The nicest thing for me is that I'm getting along with them better now that they're growing up

There is so much to do really... the drugs out there these days are so much harder & crazier. Jeez I hope I can find a way to convince my kids not to experiment the way we used to!
