Mr G, you and I should have a big debate some time over the chicken & egg part of the assumptions the 'helping' professionals make about addiction & mental illness. I am absofeckinlutely furious about the messes and misdiagnosises that are made of people's lives by so called professionals every day! I could rant for days but I won't! (promise)

Mame you are my hero today... I know how tough it is on you and the fact that you work so hard for your loved ones and hang on to your dignity and sanity so well... I've just got to say you knock me down with how well you handle things. In hindsight (another fave word of mine), speaking for myself, my mother's stubborn unreasonableness was actually quite reasonable in light of her age, instability and inability to realise she was no longer as strong and could just not do the things she thought she could. I recall my father talking about riding his bycycle to the shop... (after he had been immobile for nearly a year but he actually believed what he was planning). The mind is a funny thing with age and we eventually begin to bless our parents and love them as children again.. cranky as they may be. :l

What's Bridge studying?

I'm so slack at keeping up.

I start a new Uni unit this week looking at 'modern' art - should be interesting.

Go back and see the lovely psychologist lady about the ADD stuff next week. She's already mentioned drugs such as Ritalin etc., but I'm really really not going there. She is actually qualified, I checked, but
I'm still hugely skeptical.......

Well, off to put the (IKEA) meatballs in the oven.

Yep, a piece of paper can make all the difference sometimes. You'd be an excellent manager. You've actually got compassion, and common sense. Two trait's that could either get you fired, or elevate you to great height's, depending on how switched on the org/co. is. I'm discovering there are a lot of duffa's out there, raking it in. It's funny. I look at all my years in a drunken, 'way out there' abyss, and i cannot beleive most of these 'straight, responsible' folk who make our world go round, and how totally NOT switched on they are. No wonder our govt's are getting away with murder in a lot of area's! (don't get me started! Hold me back Reg!)

Oh love ... I thought this day might come when you took your new job.... I worked for 12 years in a similar system, trying to balance compassion for the clients (and staff) with the pragmatic needs of the organisation. Eventually you will strike your own balance, and realise that a tiny bit of 'smooze' can get the job done.
Priority One...outcomes for the service's clients......they're usually the ones who can't advocate for themselves. That's the thing that I kept in mind every day, and told everyone every chance I got
' I am here for the clients, Full stop.'
Once again I am babbling G-Force, but I hope you get my point.
