THE NEXT DAY THREAD - NOVEMBER

    Evening all!
Big hugs from me to you too, Mame! And sticking my neck out here, but, i'd be leaning towards telling your mum's sister, (the pain in the bum one?) but i suppose that's up to the rest of the family to work out? I hope you can get some rest tonight, as you're going to need strength.
Even though we are on a computer screen, you know you can lean on us, for what it's worth.

      Cindi,
I read your client fired you, cause you couldn't come up with a solution? Well, from what i know of you, which is how you help folk's out, and contribute on this site, i would say that you would've done your best, and the client can go and do 100 pushup's, in a down homey swamp, for not seeing your subtle brilliance.

G - that is what I have done - to the approbrium of some siblings. There is an issue here about what people say they want vs why they say that. My mother says she doesn't want to see her sister. She also says that she didn't want me around her today, and that I was stopping her sleeping and getting better. It is very hurtful to hear her say that ...... but I also know that when I went out to get a coffee, the nursing staff said that she got very distressed. So when she says she doesn't want to see her sister, I think that is partly about some hurt that they had in their relationship when they were young, and that at the ages of 81 and 85, it might just be time to heal that

My brothers are all in the corner of "we have to stick to the letter of what people say they want others to know about their medical condition." I think it has too much of the liberalism/individualism ethos in it to be human.

My sister and I are in the corner of "we have to understand the human stuff going on underneath this, and that may mean making a judgement call." My brothers think that that tramples over people's autonomy and right to make up their own minds.

It has left me in the situation where my mother has no idea that my brother is currently in a hospice. I have been discussing the ethical dilemma with him for some weeks .... and I can understand in many ways his position - he feels that he has hurt her in the past, he doesn't want to hurt her again, he saw the pain that my sister's death caused her, and he understands her current physical frailty. Ironically enough, he decided to talk to her about things last night. He was feeling a bit stronger physically and emotionally. Except by then she was sick.

We continue to struggle with it. My niece is my brother's main care giver, and I am my mothers. And we are right in sync but who knows. I do know that even though things might get a bit harder, that I feel like I've done the best I can, and that that has been as much as I can do.

And I so much appreciate the support that is here .... I feel like I am hogging attention instead of allowing the gentle ebb and flow of NDT to do its magic!! But actually writing these couple of posts has helped me to articulate a few things for which i am very grateful. I am heading off to bed in a minute, so I hope that you will all move on to other things and I'll catch you up in the morning!!

blessings to you all and may our rain move to your shores!!

                mame xx

I had a great music teacher in high school Reg. A working class public school, and we were pretty wild, as kid's are, but on reflection, what seemed like a slack, loose school, actually might've been how the teacher's worked it. My music teacher threw out the curriculum, saw i was keen on the guitar and music, so worked with me, and let me do what i wanted, but i put in the 'work' cause i loved it. My highest marks too. Wonder why!

Very lucky G They stopped music in my school at form 2 after we had mastered the RECORDER!!!!! I had talent and could play the "hall of the mountain king" in all its shrilling glory on the recorder. I had to convince my parents whos only 2 albums they owned were "hot august night" Neil Diamond and Demis Rousoss the fat greek in the generous surong "For Ever and Ever " endless song that i wanted to play and learn music:H

I think when Demis lost weight and donned the leather's, sure, he lost a lot of kilo's, but he also lost a lot of people.
