Wakey Wakey! Where is everyone today? Great to see everyone upbeat. I have SO many crappy things to take care of today, when I'd rather play. Oh, well, a grown-up's work is never done.

              NO-Bender Challenge

              Hi all,

I had a horrible day yesterday ........ my Mum has just come out of hospital and is very unwell, and a lot of her care falls on my shoulders. She is eligible for home support assistance, but keeps insisting that she doesn't neeed it - and of course they are not going to force it on her. Anyway, I'm just feeling a little trapped by it all. Spent most of yesterday fighting offf the demons and was doing okay until a friend brought round a botttleof wine to thank me for a small favour I had done for her on the weekend. And of course one wasn't enough and I went out and bought another one. So here I am this morning still feeling sorry for myself and with a hangover to boot.

The one thing that I am not going to let myself do is to go the Oct-sober way, where I gave up early on. I need to get back on the wagon again come hell or high water. Going to stay in bed again this morning until I'm sick of wallowing my own self-pity then I will atttempt to push myself out the door. My cats are very therapeutic!

Mame, the bad days will come. It's part of life. Maybe next time you get a 'gift' like that, give it to a neighbor immediately, or pour it down the drain. Either your neighbor will love you, or you'll feel empowered watching it go. As far as your mom, it's very hard, but you have to take care of yourself first, and not let this wear you down. Perhaps you can talk to here lovingly, but explain it's absolutely necessary she has help or things will only get worse for her. You may have to take baby steps with her, but if it helps you keep your sanity, so be it. Your no good to anyone if your under too much stress. And the help is there, so take it. Insist on it. You deserve to get all the help you can get.

                  30 day no-bender

Hi all - I only gave up midnight Saturday but would like to give this one a go (thanks to hdb) as it would be really something to achieve (which would be a change from the usual "out of it evenings") - Roberta

Today's feeling came out of no where...just a wanting to drink...knowing I can't-what to do what to do!

So I ended up taking a little more L-glut and it helped. Could be just a move my brain knows I did to help me, or the L-glut really worked...either way I feel safe now.

I just hate hate hate how the day can be going ok, then suddenly the urge to have a drink pops up.

I hope you all are having a better go of it, and sorry to hear of your struggle Aunty Mame. Good to hear of you not giving up as well!! Good for you

                            Hi Aunty Mame
Thank you for your really kind reply to my bad day, I'm embarrased at it all now, but your kind words bought me back. You sound like a lovely caring person, both for people you don't know like myself, and for your family, take some time to care for youself as well, you deserve it. Good luck.

thanks to everyone for the kindness and caring and thank you Angel for your slap!! (on another thread!!)

Trust me, the slap was what was needed!!

So I've had enough self-indulgence for now and have put my big girls pants back on (I'd never heard that phrase before I came to MWO, but I really like it!!). Have even got a bit of work done today. And my brother and I paid a visit to my Mum's GP this morning and we now have a plan in place there too.

I'm good on plans!! Like: when people give me a bottle of wine - usually because it is for a work-related reason - the plan is that it goes into work. I'm just a bit piss poor when it comes to implementation .... like yesterday, when my self-pity won out.

Am just in the middle of downloading all 10 episodes of the "Rain in My Heart" doco. I've never watched it before and seeing as Uncle Mame is out for dinner tonight, I'm going to watch it during witching hour.

Elsa, you are right...you won't find a kinder soul...even among her own dramas.
Mame, I watched the docco before but I couldn't really relate. I think I might give it another whirl though.
