Everyone sounds pretty positive! good to see other chocolate addicts on board- you're welcome to some of mine anytime hdb- hope you like Cadburys dairymilk?
That certainly was a test for you Fickle- I always used to dread having to stay dry at the weekends to ferry daughters around Fri & Sat nights- it used to make me quite grumpy- as husband never took a turn- perhaps it was his discreet way of trying to keep me sober?!!
I felt very on the edge last night but feel much better today- so maybe tonight won't be too bad
Hope you're feeling great and on target Angel C and Elsa- good luck to everyone -R

        Hi
Mmmm chocolate! Another thing I'm trying to give up, but what the hell, one thing at a time.
Everyone sounds like they're doing great, its good to be part of this, it is keeping me focused. I've had a horrible day at work, but I will not drink tonight, could kill for some dairymilk though.
        Good luck.

Yep - peaches here on Day12 (it's early in the day though!!)
Sometimes (it's sad to admit) that my 2 mini milky way bars after dinner are the highlight of my day...that & getting into bed sober to read my book.
Roberta - you in Aussie orNZ?? Or you having that Cadburys imported??

Strength to everyone posting & lurking.

I'm back - didn't manage to stay AF, but neither did I go overboard. But I missed everybody!

Today is Day One yet again, but I have still had more AF days in November than not, so I'm hanging on to that for now. I have upped my L-Glut intake today (packed in a hurry and forgot to take it with me ........ I've often wondered whether it does anything for me, but to be quite honest, I really noticed a difference wile I was away.) And been reading some of my favourite threads (which I printed off to take away with me).

Glad to see everyone is still here ........ Angel - you are going great guns!!! :goodjob:

Welcome back Aunty M - you sound under control - missed your jaunty avatar. Hi Angel C - I'm in UK (land of Cadburys) it's the only choc I really like- had a real problem whilst staying in New york a few years ago as I couldn't find any and someone suggested a Hershey bar- which unfortunately proved to be no substitute! you sound pretty amazing being able to limit yourself to 2 mini milkys! I also love reading which is another vice as I always like to buy the book (and keep it forever) hence we have a major book storage problem in the house. Hi Elsa- you sound positive- hope work is better today
              what is this L-Glut?
Love and support to all - day 12 for me - R

Hello, NB's! You all sound great. I'm working on an exercise plan and so far, well, you know the saying 'no pain no gain'? I'm waiting on the gain. Have a great day.

Te he ... Roberta - can relate to the book problem!! We have so many books that we have to have a storage facility to keep them in!!! Actually a couple of years ago I had a ruthlesss cull .... and 5 years later I still regret some of the things I dispensed with that I can no longer get hold of!!!

L-Glut is an amino acid that some people swear reduces alcohol cravings. There are lots of other thread on it here, although I dont have time to find them for you just at the moment. Have a look around - particularly under holistic healing. Someone posted a really good one a week or so back setting out the scientific rationale for why it works that was really helpful.

I'm not very good at taking any sort of medication or supplements ....... I have them on my window cell, but I might get around to actually them once every three days. And I'm a bit sceptical about how much is a placebo effect. But I realised recently that the recommended dose for L-Glut is a lot higher (2,000 - 3,000 gms per day) whereas I was only taking 500 - 1,000. I started taken more (mainly out of desperation) and I think it has helped.

And yes, I totally realise that not liking taking meds/supps but being perfectly happy to pour vast amounts of alcohol down my throat is indeed completely illogical and irrational. :H:H

                  HAve a good day everyone!!

Hi No-Benders!! Auntie Mame, when I saw your avatar and green blob, I just HAD to pop in!!!! Good to see you here and fighting the good fight. This is a GREAT thread!! How are the kitties???

There is book I really found helpful that is largely about amino acid imbalances and the related problems, of which alcohol issues are only one. The Diet Cure by Julia Ross. It's not brand new - I was able to get it easily from the local library.

There we be No Benders for me this month! Strength and hope to all...

                          Morning all....
Bit overcast here today which I don't mind at all. Will head off to the gym & then have told the kiddies we might make a cake.
Roberta - I thought NZ was the home of Cadburys for some reason...there's a Cadburys factory in my hubbies home town...his sister-in-law works there. We usually do the tour every time we visit (just for the kiddies of course...ahem...)
Well, todays Day13 for me...and Friday 13th, and just a Friday so I'm gonna keep my wits about me & stay strong.
                          Have a great day/evening all....

                            Hang on in there Angel!!

The discussion about Cadbury's reminded me of something I used to know when I was teaching industrial history ..... Cadburys was one of a number of factories in the north-east of England (Along with Rowntree's, Clarks, Wedgewood and Huntley and Pamers!) who were established by Quakers. They were completely opposed to the "dark satanic mills" aspect of the Industrial Revolution and aimed to establish ethical and non-exploitative factory employment. In the case of the Cadbury brothers this was heavily associated with producing cocoa based drinking products as an alternative to alcohol consumption (this at a time when beer - usually at 14-15% alcohol - formed part of the basic wages of most domestic staff and unskilled labourers).

                            Thus endeth the history lesson!!

But just goes to show that Cadbury's has a long and proud history as an alcohol substitute! So dont feel guilty about eating it - think of it as keeping up tradition!!!!!

Be back later ... but I'm am away in the morning for another couple of days, so hope to catch up with you all on Tuesday!!

It's 4.30pm Friday afternoon - feeling strong - and for this evenings chocolate I bought myself a wagon wheel for after dinner (It's kinda like a smore - dipped in chocolate & with a bit of raspberry jam thrown in)
