        Travel thread anyone???

I think a travel thread is a great idea. I don't get to leave my frosty state as much as I like but would love to hear about other places.

        Good idea Betty

Ruby, no nudist colonies here......wonder why

                  Travel thread anyone???

Hi - I think this is a good idea for a thread; it'll be fun to hear about people's travel plans/experiences.

Went to Paris recently; first time I'd been abroad since giving up alcohol. I was a bit concerned that my non-drinking would stand out a bit (in a country well-known for wine drinking!), but nobody seemed at all surprised! Many people there now drink water or soft drinks/coffee rather than alcohol, so I felt really at home. The weather was nice, so we had a good chance to sightsee/wander about.

                      Travel thread anyone???

Tawny and IAD, here are the directions, it really is worth going to!!!!

Welcome to Fuerteventura's Shipwreck - America Star

Something that makes for an interesting day out in Fuerteventura is going to see the American Star shipwreck. Unfortunately It isn't well known and hasn't yet been made a tourist attraction but it is an amazing sight just off the Playa de Garcey on the western side of the island.
To reach the beach and see the shipwreck you will have to drive down a long dirt track, which is about a mile south from the turn off for Ajuy. Keep an eye out as it is not very well signposted and looks like a slip road. The first sign you will see on the track is a warning against scuba diving - when you see this you know your going the right way!! Follow this track until you get to the sign saying you are entering a national park then turn left for more interesting scenery if you continue straight on you will end up in the headland above Playa de Salopas - again if you are heading in the right direction you will signs for Playa de Salopas!! Just a little further on you will start to see the shipwreck come into view. If you catch it on a cloudy day there will be a really eerie feeling.... There soon will be a place where you can park.
Then you can either go down onto the beach or onto to the headland to get a better a view although the view is the best you will get it from that spot where you park. This is a really good picture point.
On the maps you get it looks like you can carry on straight down this road to return to the main road, but this is not possible it will lead you straight into a military zone which you obviously can not go through! so turn round and take in the views on your back as there are some really picturesque scenes down the dirt track!!
Although this isn't a tourist attraction there are some really nice picture / photo opportunity's and memories for you holiday!

                      BB xx
