    Army Thread 15th October

I'm waiting for Mrs. T to finish the book I want to read next - The Girl who Kicked th Hornet's Nest, by Stieg Larsson.

I'm trying to decide between braised lamb shanks (might even do AF kleftiko) and Cape Malay meatballs. Regular meatballs pale by comparison.

For veg, I'm making whole baby sweet potatoes, wrapped in foil & baked in the oven. Plus steamed brocolli (we have that at least three times a week), probably a little side salad as well.

If I do the lamb shank, there'll either be mash, or couscous.

Sweet yellow rice goes brilliantly with the curried meatballs.

Mmmmm... there are some lovely baby carrots as well... Lightly glazed with a bit of butter, maybe...

Dog... and I've just had some of last night's grilled Portuguese chicken (butterflied), lots of peri-peri, garlic & lemon...

And I'm munching on malted puffs...

            yummmmmm......

I smoked a peice of fresh wild salmon in the cameron stovetop smoker yesterday. My plan for brekkie is an omlet asparagus tips and some of the salmon. Going to an oyster festival this afternoon so that pretty much covers it.

How did you come about your culinary expertise?

I posted a question for you yesterday, but you must have missed it.

I have started eating packet upon packet of salted peanuts & raisins. Never liked the stuff, but now can't get enough. Could it be some deficiency?

Salt and sweet are devine together. And that is a big dose of both, so watch it! I doubt it is a deficiency as you eat very well. Just a craving - we know what THAT's like! :H

I pretty much taught myself. I haven't been on a course or anything.

                    I just love food...

Did I mention that I love food???

                    Your omellete sounds fabulous!

And I'm jealous of the oysters!!! I love 'em. The only cooked variety I like are Angels on Horseback. Otherwise prefer them fresh. We have a local oyster festival, held in a beautiful town called Knysna.

Peri-peri is made from dried and smoke capsicums (chillies). A bit like paprika, but much stronger. I love spicy food.

Malted puffs are little balls of malt-flavoured biscuits covered in milk chocolate.

I've always had a sweet tooth. Now just doubly and triply so...

Dark chocolate will be the death of me...

I do my own preserved chillies as well: slice in halves (leave seeds in), dry in sun, place a few in small jars, cover with good olive oil, let stand for 3 months... yum

You just use the oil, which turns orangey / red - lovely stuff
