This is the site of President John F. Kennedy's assassination on November 22, 1963. Reunion Tower and the Hyatt Regency (seen in the background) were not there at the time. The American and Texas flags are seen in background of the second photo. This is the view from the grassy knoll.
The spot where President Kennedy was gunned down is marked with an X, in the center lane. The curb across the street also has a white mark on it. Another view of Elm Street - you can see the grassy knoll and the triple underpass.

Kennedy assassination site - Dealey Plaza
View of Elm Street and the grassy knoll seen from Dealey Plaza. The area to the far left near the triple underpass and the steps is the actual "grassy knoll" where various theories put a second gunman. "Old Red" - the Old Red Courthouse, now a museum.
The Texas School Book Depository, where Lee Harvey Oswald fired from the corner window of the sixth floor.
Aunt Dance was 8 years old and in third grade when this happened. She was home sick from school that day and remembers her mom getting a call from her dad to tell her. Even now she remembers that time very clearly, and what it felt like to have that happen where she lived.Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind ~ Bob Marley ~ Redemption Song

We saw other parts of downtown Dallas too. This is outside of the Dallas World Aquarium. It was already closed when we got there, but sounds like a fun place to go! It has fish and rain forests and birds inside. It was nice and cool by this fish tank in the shade.

Do you think this truck I saw at Walmart is his? Cool paint job! I thought for a second that was J.R Ewing, but he's not wearing a tie. Actually it's not, it's really me! Hee hee!

We saw other things driving home.
The traffic was slow through here. They are filming a new series about crooks in Texas called Lonestar, that starts next week. This was one of the film trucks - it says 20th Century Fox if you look close. Aunt Dance didn't realize what was going on until she saw their props all set out and cameras, but the light turned green so she didn't get a picture - just this one at the last stop light.
Then a young pigeon swooped down and landed on the hood of the car. Aunt Dance drove a block, and it wasn't flying away! She pulled over and I got a good look at it. She got out to move it, and it did fly then! WOW!

We saw more art - this is big mosaic at the Dallas Museum of Art. It used to be on the side of a building on a freeway and was one of Aunt Dance's favorite things when she was growing up. She thought it was what's under the ocean, and that it was all sea creatures. She only saw it driving by on the freeway, not up close. It is titled "Genesis" and was done in 1954 by Mexican artist Miguel Covarubbias. When that building was going to be torn down, it was moved to the DMA. The first photo is a "panoramic" of three photos, which is hard to line up exactly, but you get the idea.

Real live bunnies! Up close. There were two of them. Since there are no wild tigers in Texas, they didn't think I was dangerous! Hee hee!
There are lots of horses at this place! A cowboys gotta have a horse! Which one? There's an Arabian stallion! WOW! There's a guy who thinks he's a leopard - he'd match my favorite saddle!
There's a guy who knows how conserve energy when needed - actually, he's a little hotrod, he just doesn't like the flash in his eyes!
