The cubs are loving it, by the way!

They've even made the connection between the similar climates in South Africa and Greece - both are Mediterranean.

The Western Cape (where we're from) is famous for both its table grapes & wine estates. Olives are a booming industry, with some estate oils winning international awards.

Other provinces, further north, are big exporters of fruit like bananas, including pistachio nuts.

Tigger, are you there, little guy?
Yes, I'm just going to tell MWO people how our day's gone so far.
Okay, then... let's see what you have to say...
We got up early and went for another walk around the neighbourhood and Auntie Stirly showed me some more pretty houses. She said the apartment buildings aren't built like boxes with balconies like they used to be. And they paint them pretty colours now....

And this is a garden that I liked because it has a really big palm tree in it. The dog started to bark and run for me so Auntie Stirly got me out of there quick..

Then what happened after we took pictures of the houses?
Well, it started to rain so we had to run home. Auntie Stirly put me in her bag so I was nice and dry but Freddie and her got soaked. She didn't complain tho'. She said it was a nice summer rain. I'm glad I didn't get wet. I had a bath yesterday and that's enough water for me for a while.
          Tigger, where are you?
I'm sitting on the balcony watching the rain drip off the trees.

Well since it's a rainy day, I thought we'd go to the Mall. What do you think - do you want to come along too?
Yes, I'd like that Auntie Stirly.
Ah, you're such a polite little fellow. Come on then, get dressed and off we go...
Get dressed?? You mean I have to wear clothes?
Yes, the Mall is a fancy shopping centre and they won't let you in without a top on. There's a new sweater on your bed. Put that on and then you'll be okay.
Okay. This is even worse than having a bath...
          Did you say something Tigger?
No, just getting dressed. Now I'm ready...

My aren't you a handsome young man, well, tiger...
          Yeah, handsome and hot...

Tigger, you gonna tell about the visit to the Mall or do you want me to?
It's okay, I'll tell about it. I was just having a little chat with the Animal Crackers..
Well, we got to the Mall and it is very impressive.
I like it a lot Tigger - especially the entrance...

I liked the view cause you can see the Olympic Stadium. Auntie Stirly told me the part that covers the seats was designed by a Spanish architect called Santiago Calatrava and that they built the cover in two parts away from the stadium and then rolled them over on big platforms and bolted them in place. Was the first time something like that was ever built in Greece. You can see it in this picture...

And this is another view of the Olympic complex. I like it way up here but it was kinda windy and I was a little afraid that I might fall...

Did you like the inside of the Mall?
Yep. It's really big and there were lots of people...
It's very modern Tigger - was opened November 25, 2005. It was the first of the kind to be constructed in Greece and is one of the largest shopping and leisure centres in Southeastern Europe.

Well, I liked the fire engine made out of Lego pieces the best of all. A very nice young man who worked on it put me up on the front of it so Auntie Stirly could take my picture. I felt almost like a real fire fighter up there....

What about the shops? Did you like them?
There were very pretty display windows and lots of fancy things. Not tiger thingeys but nice things anyway.
We took a picture for Auntie JC who loves posh shoes and handbags didn't we?
Yes and I was afraid someone was going to step on me while you were taking the picture...

And a picture of fancy sunglasses and accessories that I liked...
                Yeah, girly stuff...

                What else did we see?
Well, you did try and find some sandals for me but even the smallest ones they had were still too big!!

But I didn't mind cause I met a very lovely lady and she let me sit on her lap.
First of all, she wasn't a lady she was a shop mannequin and secondly you didn't ask permission to go off by yourself and scared me half to death cause I thought I'd lost you...
                She was pretty tho'

You want to tell them about the last thing we found before we left?
Hee, hee. We found a grass skirt for Uncle KTAB!!!

                Want to say anything else?
Just goodbye for now. And thanks Auntie Stirly for a fun day.
You're welcome little Tigger. Off to bed you go....

I just wanted to add that there are at least 20 shop people at the Mall who now think I am totally loony.... And probably a lot of other shoppers, too... Not to mention that handsome young man who put Tigger up on the Lego firetruck

That's one of the things I like best about the pictures on his tour: to think of the real-life situations where the pictures are taken and how others react.

A few of them have been sold to private companies and have been turned into office buildings and such and some of them are used regularly for concerts and different sporting events but a lot of them have been abandoned. It was said afterwards that it was known before the 2004 games that Greece wouldn't be able to pay for the upkeep of the buildings. Thing was that really a lot of equipment was stolen because there was no security put to look after the buildings and contents. There is another shopping centre called Golden Hall that opened a while ago and it is in the building that was the international broadcast centre for the games.
