After they had a wee .... scare or something..we decided to move on.

We found a chilled out little court yard and relaxed here for awhile!

And then admired the carrousel for a bit!

Only a few more days in Paris and then Tigger moves on!!!:upset: We are REALLY hoping that the weather clears up this week. Because we have quite a few more things to see! Well, it is February! Maybe we'll luck out!

I am glad you are making Tigger climb up lots of stairs after all that hot chocolate and ice-cream - I found if I didn't wear him out a bit he would bounce on the bed all night shouting 'whee!' and 'boing'! i do hope you are not having this trouble.

By the way Expat, I fear you will miss Tigger too much when he is gone and so I am volunteering to pack myself up in a parcel and send myself to France to replace him. Then you can take me all around Paris taking photos. I promise I certainly do NOT bounce on the bed! (And I eat a little less than Tigger too).

            Oh pleeeease!

:H Anytime Kim!! And you are right--we will miss him when he goes! But we still have till the end of the week so plan to make the most of it! Saying that...telling my little boy that he has to go will be no fun! He's sleeping with Tigger as we speak! I'll have to show him Tigger's visit with Ladyjan and Ollie again-so he can see that Tigger has other little MWO kids (both big and small!) to cheer up and make happy. We HAVE SO enjoyed his visit with us!

Thank you so much for this. BIG BIG dose of nostalgia.

Can recommend Hotel Trois Colleges - but insist on, and pay extra for Room #63.

We'll be back tomorrow morning with photos from Versailles! They took forever to upload and now Expat is going to bed.

We did get wet and cold but Expat's little boy gave me a treat of chocolate eclairs before bed-even a teeny one just my size.

Good morning MWO gang! We can't wait for nice weather anymore (it could be a long wait-like April!! And that's not possible since I'm moving on in a few days!) We've just arrived at the Versailles Castle. It's about 25 minutes outside of Paris.

The Palace of Versailles!! Louis XIV installed the Court and Seat of Government here in 1682.The palace and its surrounding gardens form one of the most famous world heritage monuments and stand out as the finest and most complete achievement of French art in the 17th century. (I'm getting pretty good at this travel guide talk!)

                          The Sun King

Louis was a mere 5 yrs old when he became King of France in 1643. He adopted the sun as his personal emblem. He became known as the Sun King: the radiant giver of life and warmth around which the whole world revolves...you get the idea. Well, he was an absoulute monarch which was another term for elegant tyranny. In other words, "While you're living it up, some of us are starving". But we'll get back to that later.

                            I must admit-it's pretty impressive!

Since it was raining, we bought tickets to ride on the little tourist train. The boy child and I were glad Expat did not make us walk! It's about 30 minutes walk through the gardens to get over to Marie's hamlet. Which is where we're going. The grounds are huge.

Our first stop (we can hop on and off the little train! Whee! This is more like it! I don't want my fur to get too wet.) is the Grand Trianon (1687). It was the "recreational" residence for Louis XIV and his family. The poor things! That little palace was just not enough. Well, I guess they needed to escape from all the court hangers on or whatever.

Here's a canal thingy behind the Grand Trianon. In the summer months it is quite lovely. They have fish and stuff in it. Expat was worried that the boy child would fall in-and since the water is freezing right now-we'd have to go home. But we just ignored her and poked our sticks in and threw rocks and stuff.

The Domaine of Marie-Antoinette! Nope, she was not satisfied just having the palace either. Actually, she was the only queen to have imposed her personal taste on Versailles. Given to her in 1774 by Louis XVI, the queen could find in this estate a haven of tranquillity and intimacy. Expat says she can understand. She finds the big palace just a bit too big and cold for her tastes. Not that she's ever going to have to worry about that kind of choice:H! Whoops! Sorry expat!

The Petit Trianon. built by Gabriel in 1761 under Louis XV, was given to Marie-Antoinette by Louis XVI under these terms: "Since you love flowers,I am offering you a bouquet, it is the Petit Trianon". How sweet! Expat says she's been dating the wrong kind of guys!
