The buildings in this town were so beautiful, when Gen. Sherman made his (terribly offensive) March to the Sea, Savannah, Georgia, he made it a point to burn every town, including Atanta, but this one. Also, The Male Academy and the Women's Academy were used as hospitals during this time. There are battle sites all over the county, and it's not uncommon still to uncover Civil War implements, and Native American arrowheads, pottery, etc.

This is an outbuilding from an old plantations that Mims Daddy gave her and brought to her house. The little ones use it as a playhouse.

They had kitchens built away from the main house so if they caught fire, a team of horses could be hooked to it and drag it away to save the living area. Aunt Mim and her Momma lived with her Granny while her Daddy was in Korea, and there was a smokehouse, pig sty, chicken pen, corn crib, cow barn, stable, outhouse, and a cemetary! Aunt Mim 's cousins scared her when she was little by taking her snipe hunting there after dark!
