Not dropping out Ruby ??? just that we made a list of things last night that need to done before Xmas and it is really long and to cap it all off I head off up North next Monday and not back until 18th!!
Phoenix ? menoprincesses ? I like that!
Ruby ? you are such a living treasure! I love your stories!! BTW ? my brother arrived yesterday in the city I live to see my Mum (he has been up north with my brother and another sibling) ??.. so tonight I get my Clinique supplies!! He says your election was yesterday??
Tipplerette - those road tours sound like great fun!! My bloke is an ex-biker but had a really bad accident (almost died) about 20 years ago and hasn?t been back on one since. There is a biker group that does a regular Sunday morning ride and starts out from close to where I swim ?. I love the sound of 30-40 bikes heading off into the hills all at once!!
Dancelot - no-one took offence at my computer!! I like the straight talking on this place!
DG - nothing to say except that our kittens send good vibes to your doggies!!
and hello to everyone else too in the Canaries (you are so lucky LJ!!), Canada, US and UK!Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn

You all sound chipper and hello to everyone.
Rubes, I watched Christmas Vacation last night, it was hilarious. I usually watch White Christmas every December, I think that I saw it coming on soon. It's an oldie, but a goodie.
The sun is finally out today so off to the office and then out and about.
Everything I need is within me!

Mame, I'm so excited. 'Been thinking about your Clinique since your PMd. Hope he got your order right! I love the stuff. Amazing the dif in prices for things. I bought Wii consoles for the grands for Christmas, friends in Ireland and Canada said they pay 2 1/2X as much there. I got a really good deal, $179 +tax. I would never buy regular video games for my kids, but these are so different, and I know all my grands are very active, fit, outdoor kids anyway. These are rainyday activities. Factoid about me for the day: The road I live on is named for my g-g-g-grandfather's plantation.

Men No Pause Here!!!
Good afternoon, everyone!
Grateful, it is warmer in PA than in TX! We even woke up to snow falling yesterday (didn't stick, but it was pretty).
Ruby, I hope your granddaughter never gives up her dream! The reason we have them is because sometimes they are meant to be - if your friend's son hadn't pursued his dreams he wouldn't be successful in music! Great stories - I am happy for them both.
I have an old vinyl album of Emmy Lou Harris'. I don't recall the name, but it has the song "Coat of Many Colors". The rest of it is great too. This album is from the mid 70s. Guess I need another iTunes card! I have tons of old records I can't play, and a lot that never came out on CD. I love Allison Krauss also (and she did that album with my old hero Robert Plant! :H).
Aunty Mame, glad you're OK with my raging hormone self! :H Sometimes it takes me by surprise, and I'm not sure how I come across. Does anyone remember The All In The Family show? There's one episode where Edith is going through menopause, and stands up to and starts ripping into Archie.
Phoenix, I love the term "menoprincesses" as well! I sure feel like one this week!
OK, here's a perimenopause / menopause question for today - Does this ever feel like puberty in reverse to anyone else?Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind ~ Bob Marley ~ Redemption Song

Enjoy reading all about you artsy gals and your families and animals. It's comforting to be on this journey with you all. I appreciate the tough love as well as the tender words. I am the worst at following through so I need the no BS attitude sometimes. Besides the occasional sweating I have no menopause symptoms (remember I'm 53) and periods are still like clockwork. I can hardly wait for that to STOP. There's a lot of talent among us isn't there; lots of huge hearts too and at our age we're finally allowing our true selves to shine through. I adore reading all about you and talked to my Doc today about Topomax prescription. He didn't think I needed it. He suggested I do all the things I have tried. Just cut down; say no; stop at one. I'll try the supps and the hypno tapes and see what happens.Tipplerette
I do this for my children, my grandchildren, my health, my peace of mind, and mostly for the opportunity to learn to live with my true, unfiltered, clear-headed, vulnerable self.

Count me in! 57 years old, 2 grown and married children who don't abuse alcohol. I've been with my significant other for over 20 years and he does not drink....only the 1 beer every other week! I've been abusing alcohol for the past 5 years and have been recording lots of 0s in the DrinkTracker for many weeks thanks to MWO!!!

Hi, My New Beginning - nice to meet you! I love the DrinkTracker too - especially now that it's zeros. Seeing it in writing helps both as positive reinforcement, and the "old part" I typed in before before I became AF is clear reminder. That is 8 days, but it was really 8 full years since I had any length of sobriety, so I choose to see it as 8 years rather than 8 days.
Tipplerette - I found I had to (have to) use the tough love approach on myself, as that is the only thing that worked. Normally I don't see issues as black and white, either/or, EXCEPT this one. There just isn't any middle ground on this issue. I hope everyone knows that I am coming from a place of love, not a random attack. And trust me, it was hard for me too. I wasn't at MWO when I was in the denial phase so no one saw it. I wrote a long dissertation (:H) on keg's "Cold Turkey" thread in general discussion yesterday. I'll refer to that rather than repeat myself too much.
Know you can do this; if I did, it's possible for anyone. I drank for 36 years, my whole adult life really. I need to live out the rest of it sober. That or not live too much longer.
I had this line pop into my head this morning, if someone insisted I have a drink. It was, "No, I'm an alcoholic, and if I have one drink, I will drink myself to death." Now I probably would not say that out loud, but I can say it to myself. It's the Angel of Honesty that sits on our shoulder, the one we need to listen to instead of the little cartoon Devil that tells us to drink. I like how my cartoon Angel has gotten so outspoken! Maybe her hormones are raging too, or I'm just listening now.
You can still have fun on the bike without AL - I bet there's other bikers that do. I know I sometimes didn't pay attention to the idea of sober people - probably it was too much of a reminder of the fact I wasn't, and didn't think I could be (which I believed at the time).
Love to all of ya! :hEmancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind ~ Bob Marley ~ Redemption Song

Dancealot,
I like your outspoken Angel as well. That was a great post!
Ruby - alll Clinique arrived safe and sound. (Thank goodness I did the ordering - there is no way my brother would have got it right!!) And there are a variety of explanations about why goods are cheaper in the US then elsewhere, but most of them depend on what one's political beliefs are so I shall not go into them here!!!Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn

Dancelot, I swear you are my twin...
Re: perimenopause - I had the worst emotional mood swings of my life the 2 years before I stopped menstruating. I actually was SOBBING at my GYN, begging her to give me some hormones. She refused and said I needed a Psychiatrist. I got my period a few days later, so it WAS the PMS from hell... I never went back to her.
Yesterday was a big day for me. I had decided that "a bottle of wine would be nice tonight" and changed my route home to go past the grocery store. BUT then I was able to talk myself out of it and drive right past. I did 5 miles on the treadmill to exhaust myself past the cravings then went to bed. Whew! I dodged the bullet!!

Hey, everyone!
Thank you, Aunty Mame!
Phoenix, that's great! Getting through those urges, overcoming the "automatic pilot" that seems to come over us and consciously doing something different is such a big part of "retraining the brain". Making the choice in that moment. That's the key. Keep doing it every time, and you will get there. Eventually, our habits start to change, and it gets easier and easier. Plus if you replace the urge with all that time on the treadmill, you're gonna be looking SO good! Fabulous Fifties indeed!Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind ~ Bob Marley ~ Redemption Song
