asp - I dont resile from my previous post (ie; get some professional advice) but child protection services are chaotic in most countries. They are better in Oz and NZ than many other places and mostly the best interests of the child are at the forefront. It often leaves some adults/grandparents/dads in a situation where things are less than ideal .... but hey, sometimes that happens.
you sound like you have a strong xtended family ..... I have a big one myself with lots of us raised in houses where the adults were aunties and uncles or older brothers and sisters. Love and attention is crucial. Violence is completely unacceptable. I agree with Mr G that even if you may feel in a somewhat awkward situation, what your partner said was right. If there is any prospect of it coming back to you in a violent way you should call the cops. In advance if necessary. First and foremost, protecting the kids (yours and your neighbours) is the number 1 priority.
