Nup.. doesn't work. I've had nights where I'm so tired & come home to piles of stuff & just say "there is the rice cooker, go for it" and gone to bed. They don't care.. just more mess again in the morning.

I just worry Mr G that the worse it gets the worse I get and there goes a spiral downwards to some darn plugghole. I know I need some sort of support or counselling but where is the time when one is trying to earn a wage?

I've always given my kids heaps of unconditional love but they are turning out really selfish. I'm beginning to wonder about the fact that my childhood being so crap & being told I was worthless the whole time MIGHT HAVE MADE me the fighter that I am today.

My worst nightmare is that I've turned my kids into helpless softies that can't cope or do anything for themselves just because I've accepted them as they are and love them.

Well, you know you're not worthless for a start. You've got a huge load there Fick's! Can you start to get them to take more responsibility? would that help? if so, how would you do it?

Yeah, It's got to that point.. my 16yo has recently come to the point of accepting NEGOTIATION instead of argument.. so now she hands in her laptop at 9pm at night (she used to stay up all night)
But for my son, I'll have to get a chain to lock up his bike so he can't go the skatepark.
As for my youngest.. she is brillant and earning heaps of pocket money.. A natural helper
Ahhh all this nastiness & lack of cash B4 xmas tho

I've been trying.. I've got a list of things to do for each..
The eldest does simple kitchen dinner prep after school..
The younger two only have to do dishes & dry.. swap each day.

They get paid pocket money for all this and everything was great for the first week... then it was just I 'don't care'.

WHAT TO DO WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK?

My trouble is what do do when I come home and everything is chaos.. not to mention them ringing me at work about their arguments... BLEAH!

I used to have them in after school care but could no longer afford it... plus decided they need to learn these basic life skills but hell.. .. they really need supervision to make it work

Nannys cost heaps and after school care programs are just a cop-out (well at this age).

Start simple? No pocket money till stuff get's done. And bike lock/chain (10/15 buck's) till things get done. For every action, or non action, there is a reaction, as in life.

Now, for Christmas, what's your dilemma? Need an Xbox 360?, p/station 3, bike's, etc, etc? Expensive......Friends of the earth, or Oxfam style present's? What's your plan?
