That monstrous little voice can always give us reasons to wait, for just one more day, one more holiday, more more season, one more reason. Our voice of REASON gets shouted down, that today is all we're promised, and today should be the best day we can make it.

I don't know if this will help but......3 years ago...I had been on mwo for 4 months.....vacilating back and fourth with moderating.....knowing that I was not truly moderating at all. I had decided that I would stop drinking on Janurary 1 2008. Well, then I began to really think about this decision.....Did I really want the drama that "Festive Holiday" drinking brings? Festive...my arse! If I were a festive drinker, I would not need to stop! Long story short, I went AF on Dec 6 and stayed AF througout the holiday season. They were truly the best holidays that I and my family had enjoyed in years! And best of all....I remembered all of the festivities and not me being a drunken fool! I am looking forward to a happy and sober 3rd holiday season!
        Best Wishes!

MamaZum, Tawnywitch, Miss O, I'm with you. I can't wait any longer. I started MWO in earnest two days ago. It would be really good to check in here each day. Beast in a wine glass! You nailed it Miss O. KateH1, thanks for your story. It's good to hear some success stories right about now.

Yes, I too found the beast in the bottom of a wine glass. I was a social drinker for years until I picked up a wine habit. It was one that took a few years to put down. Even though I have been sober for 60 days, I have NO OTHER desire to drink anything else but wine. Ii think I was in love with holding the glass. I think this is a problem for many women as wine was almost "glamorized" at most social events. Nobody told me it had nasty little claws!

                    Hi Mama,Miss O,Tawny,Henrietta.

My beast was wine too. BUT. It was not just at the bottom of a wine glass. It was a coffee cup, a plastic beaker and eventually straight out of the bottle.

I still love to hold my beautiful gothic designed wine glass but I now fill it with the most delicious sour cherry juice.

Sorry don't know where you would find in the States, but I love it.

Wishing you all the luck in the world.

                    J x

                    :l
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Millions, Mama Z, but they don't have the benefit of finding this place. YET. We are ALL separated from that first day by that first drink.:l

                        Hi All,

As you can see from my name, wine is my beast too. First white for many years then went to red...not that did help. Still drank a bottle by myself. I'm only now accepting that i have a problem.

I'm in the same boat as you guys. Keep on posting, it is nice not to do this on one's own, none of my friends now about my problem.

                        Let's kill this beast.

JackieClaire, I had to laugh as well! No glass for me. My thing was those little mini wine boxes they've come out with. So portable, so easy to hide!
One of the only things that gives me hope these days is my unshakable determination to find what works for me. Reading the posts from people on this site is the other thing. I believe if I just keep trying I'm going to find the right drug combination, or the right strategy to help me stay AF. Right now I'm giving Campral a shot. I tried it before but I didn't stick with it for long. I've now read that it doesn't even start to kick in for a week. I'm also working in the supplements and exercise. One of these days we'll get it right!

Thank you all for your responses !! I see we have quite a few who want to kill the beast !!

TW, MZ, Henreitta, this is such a better time to stop then wait until the New Year. I know myself, if I drink through December, I WILL consume TOO MUCH Wine ! So lots of strength and determination to you all.

RubyWillow, you are so correct, so why wait. No better time than NOW !!

Kate, thanks for your inspirational post. You stopped in the middle of the holiday season, so we can too.....with hard work, determination, and guts !!

Shirazgirl, I have been following your journey and you are doing great. BIG congrats on 60 days. And I too love holding my wine glass. It rarely leaves my hand in the evening except to refill it.

JackieClaire, who would have thought.........wine in a coffee cup.....I had to laugh at that one even though it really IS NOT a laughing matter. Great job on being AF since 7/7/09 !!

Chardonnay, I too went from white to red. Now too much red bothers my stomach, so sometimes I start with white and finish with red

Oh, and last night, the beast never left the bottle.....cork was screwed in real tight !!

                              Hello October,
Thanks for starting this thread. Congratulations on keeping the cork in the bottle last night. I also choose wine as my poison. Chardonnay is my favorite, but I'm not that picky.
Henrietta how's it going with Campral? I've been taking it since June and it has helped me a lot but I'm still having my struggles. At least I made it today!
Jackie I have a friend in the US who goes to the supermarket with a sippy cup filled with wine. Who would suspect?
Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.
