              Tawny,

Many of us reading this don't know who he was. Would you please tell us a bit more?

Help everyone to celebrate his life?

                  Thanks Tawny-

Bear meant so much to many of us on the boards. He was a father figure, a mentor and a really good friend. He had no problem telling us to get back on track when we screwed up and told us to never stop trying to beat the beast.

I'm proud Bear saw his one year anniversary before he died. I wonder how the drunk driver is doing in prison now. I should print out everything Bear has ever written and mail them to her.

Bear family if you're reading this...... we love you and hope all of you are doing OK.

To those who didn't know him, Bear was a lovely man, with us from the very start of MWO. In May '08, RJ posted the following:

Very sad news about our beloved Bear

It is with great sadness I write to tell you that our very special MDBiker, a man who was winning his battle with alcoholism, lost his life last week. He was returning home from an AA meeting Thursday evening and was killed by someone who was allegedly driving drunk.

I have spoken with Bear?s wife, a remarkable woman of tremendous faith. They were married 33 years and she buried him on their anniversary. She says she believes some good can come of this devastating loss?that others can learn from this horrible event. That she hopes it will serve as a critical reminder to everyone here to never, ever get behind the wheel of an automobile when drinking.

?Bearlady?, who will post shortly, told me today that MWO was hugely important in her husband?s life and the community had a profound effect on him. I know it?s certainly true that he had the same impact on us.

Like all of you, I cannot believe he is gone. On a personal level, Bear is someone with whom I communicated regularly. I watched him struggle, gain strength, overcome his addiction, and provide endless support to others in need of help. His friendship and generosity meant the world to me. As I told his wife, he represented the best of who we are and what we do at MWO.

Our most cuddly member is no longer with us. But I know his spirit will live on always. Please, honor his memory by continuing his important work in becoming a healthy and vibrant individual, in loving others unconditionally, and in never risking a life because of a disastrous decision to drink and drive.

                    With a heavy heart,

Oh man, I just burst out crying to see his picture. He was soooo very special and meant so much to many of us, esp. me. He'd call me at odd times to check on me, I'd be at the grocery and look down and see it was him calling and it'd just make me smile. He'd say..."I'm just checking your pulse Tex, how's it going"....he'd always be there if I needed to talk to him. He was just a big loveable Teddy Bear....he is soooo greatly missed. I still hear him saying.."you will not drink this hour, next take another hour, if you can get baby steps, you'll get hike later"....he never minded getting on our butts too...lol....we needed it. I talk to him all the time, lots of times I just look up and think about our Bear in the Air, and I know he is looking out for us, and I know he's pulling for us. Lets make him PROUD! We owe it to him! Bear family, we love you too, and are so grateful for him, and so grateful you shared him with us!

Bear was indeed a special man and I was glad to have known him for as short of a time as I did. He used to send me the most supportive PMs that meant the world to me.

Bear - a life well lived. We miss you terribly. RIP.

                          Thanks Tawny for starting this.
