The Next day Thread, February, 2010.

    Evening all,
Good on you Miss B, and boxing's good if you feel like letting off steam.
Good luck Ronnie! I suspect the fact you are sober is keeping you (yourself) together, and will keep you together through all this. The Centrelink website should have some relevant info. Make sure you ask for a receipt number for any phone conversations you have with them, so at least they'll be accountable for any info/advice they give you. Errr, so when are you on the market? (sorry, just joking!)

Good to see you Grindos! Happy travel's folk's........

The Next day Thread, February, 2010.

          Hi All,

Decided to do some paperwork today so I was sat at my (home) desk with this website open in the background. I kept flicking around when I was on the phone etc.

Some of the stories are SO sad. Some people are so desperate for help. The ones that affect me most are the ones where the writer is drunk when they type and they feel guilty. (I don't mean any of this in a bad way...hope I'm making sense.)

Guys, I've seen your responses to some of these threads (I look out for you) and your words of wisdom and experience are invaluable.

I wish I had known about MWO a few months ago. I have been in touch with an old friend via FB and he admitted he had been an alcoholic all of his adult life. (His childhood was one long nightmare.) I have worked with this guy and there is no way anyone knew. He was the most dependable, trustworthy person ever. He went into rehab for three months in early Feb. His family are allowed to visit but he has no phone / computer access. It would have been great for him to speak to you before he went.

When he comes out I am going to ask him to join us here. Unfortunately, that will mean admitting some of my own demons - I never told him I was a problem drinker.

Sorry - I'm rambling. Just feeling a bit down today.

The Next day Thread, February, 2010.

            Morning all,
Spamious, that is a lovely post. I'm really happy for your friend that he's tackling his problem drinking/alcoholism/affliction, whatever we wish to call it. Often, as you probably know, it's the reasons behing our alcohol/drug (self) abuse that we need to address. It could be as basic as a shift in our thinking, or there may be deeper issues that need unravelling. Luckily for me, a boot up the kybher, and a re-set of my thinking did the trick. I know for many other folk, it can be more complicated. But, i know that feeling free, and breaking the chains (al) that bind us, is straightforward, and can be done fairly easily really, once we have a vision for ourselves out of the trench.
Don't forget, this place is anonymous, even though we know each other quite well on this thread, and people here know more about me than many of my friends in real life, (apart from real close friends) for me, the folk's here are non judgemental, and have a healthy outlook on life, and sense of humour to match, but more importantly, i feel safe, and comfortable to share stuff with folk's here, especially one or two that we might 'click' with eventually. It can also be a helpful process to let go of some demon's via p.m's to someone you feel a connection/trust with down the track too.
            Just some thought's Spam....

Have a magical day all! Off to pump iron....Yeehawww!

Yep ..... this is it..... the time when Bridge would argue with herself all day to drink or not to drink. Then cave.

How are you today Spammy ? Down is just a direction love, it's not permanent.
I predict we will both be well over it by log on time this evening.

                Heya

Hey I'm new here, from Wynnum Brissy and Tawnfrog welcomed me in. Although I'm new to the Forum I'm not new to drinking. What I really want to know if there are support groups that are not AA in Brisbane. Looked in all the normal spots and can't seem to find anything. I belive support groups have there place and I'm really keen to get involve. You never know one of these people might have the key to getting my life back, Imagine that.
                :new:

So Hi and I hope all are well.

P.S. Hey just to get the ball rolling, I've lost my car, Girl and was forced to break lease. This not a whinge just to let you know I'm super keen for anwsers. Cause I still have alot to loose. :thanks:

Hi Fuel and Welcome. Sorry I can't help with any other support groups but I can say this site is excellent. Take some time out and look around. You could drop into the Newbies Nest (in the Starting Out section). I think some people have been talking about another programme - RR? Road to Recovery? Read lots and ask all the questions you want. No-one here is judgemental.

Mr G - Thanks for listening. Luckily, my battle is not too hard. I don't get cravings as such - more of "I fancy a glass of wine" but I just tell myself I'm not going to have one. However, I know if I get too confident I will be at risk of going back to the old life. I miss my friend and would love to hear how's he doing.

What do you mean "anonymous"? Spam is my real name; that's really me in the picture and I am 29!

Bridgey - Yep - I'm back up again. It was only a temporary dip. Hope you're back on top form later.

I'm off in a minute to start my day. Task one - clearing up the trail of destruction left by my 10 year old son!

Just one more comment for the moment ....

On the way to school this morning, I saw two police cars on the side of the road and a number of police officers. I so wanted to lean out of the window and yell "you can't get me now!"

                  Have a good day.

Bridge this one's for you:l:l:l I hate those days when you wake up and feel like that for no particular reason. Blame it on hormones and good on you for getting out. I also find soppy movies and a good cry quite therapeutic!

                    and :welcome: Fuel!!

Spam - glad you are feeling a better. I frequently get breathalised on Saturday morning on my way back from my swim. It always stuns me how many people they catch out who are still over the limit from drinking the night before (or into the wee hours of the morning).

Back to the counsellor this afternoon for my own attempt at unraveling the issues re drinking.

I fell across this the other day .....
"We casually say they hibernate, but frogs actually estivate. That means to pass the time in a state of dormancy or torpor. Frogs estivate to escape unusually hot or dry weather as well as the freezing temperatures of winter."

OI BRIDGE! IS IT NOT YOUR HORMONES LOVEY??

Seriously though, getting out of the house is a marvelous idea, and how about some carbs?? Bananas and avo's are reputed to be very good for elevating one's mood.

Ronnie - keep checking in and ask for help if you need it. How long have you been in Oz and how was your relationship before you moved?

Welcome to Fuel - onwards and upwards.

EVERYONE ELSE - travel well today (did I steal that from somewhere??) xx

Hey Guys, Has anyone ever experienced extream anger when forgetting a few doses of camp?
I tend to get super cranky at little things, and i hope its the lack of campral working and not the lack of campral... if that makes sense.
I have a real life mate on campral and he is the same.
