Struggling
I am 40 years old and have been drinking pretty much on a daily basis for years. I don't drink in the day, but look forward to relaxing and falling asleep to drinking after work. And for sure on the weekends at events or home or wherever. Anyhow, I can feel my health starting to be affected by drinking and know it is time to seriously cut back if not stop entirely. Realisticly I don't see myself completely quitting but I can see myself cutting back to almost quitting. I am definitely feeling the effects fatigue, SO IRRITABLE OMG I can hardly handle myself! And I have only been doing this during the week, and it's only my 2nd week at this...does it get any easier??? any feedback or input on this? I really don't want to be a drinker on a daily basis anymore I don't want it to be a part of my everyday life and I think I would be ok if I could just break the everyday cycle. Any helpful tips?
looking forward to some feedback-Tags: None

Hi there Kimmikk and welcome to you.
You might find the supplements Lglutamine and kudzu help with cravings, they did for me.
It does get easier, but dont forget it took some time for the negative effects to build up, so it will take some time for you to feel better and for you brain and body to heal from the abuse. Good food, exercise, lots of water will all help to get you back in balance.
Good on you for giving this a go!Living now and not just existing since 9th July 2008
Nicotine Free since 6th February 2009

Years ago i would only drink in the evening, just to chillout & unwind, but slowly that changed and i started to make excuses of how i could drink earlier, well the rest is history and i ended up a full blown alcoholic. If you can cut back like you said, good for you,but it is hard, there is a long term moderate thread here which you might check out, they should be able to give some great advice, goodluck and keep posting and asking.

RJ recommends a good regime of supplements in her book. You can download it from the Health Store at the top of this page. You've no doubt depleted your body and need to build it back up. Be sure you drink 8 - 10 glasses of water a day.sigpic

Struggling
So Here is an experience I had recently that had to do with giving in to my urge to drink and how strong it is. Throughout the whole day, (this was after about 3 days of not drinking) I was feeling like my blood sugar levels were up and down and I was feeling heart palpatations and reading up on all this withdrawal information on being alch free, nways, I think it was getting to my head a bit and I started freaking out like I was going to have a heart attack or pass out from low blood sugar (because my body was so use to having the sugar from the alcohol everyday) so on top of all that we went out to dinner (sushi) and I soooo wanted to have a beer with the sushi and was feeling all those scary feelings and I did have a few beers with the sushi and it was just amazing how much better I felt after just a couple of beers. I could go on and on the difference I felt in just a few BEERS it is just scary. It really showed me how dependent my BODY is to the alcohol!!!!! Does this change? and how? besides the not drinking...what are the physical changes that start to take place from not having the alcohol in your body on a regular basis? Does anyone know any of this information?

:welcome: Join us in getting the monkey off your back. I recommend starting by downloading the My Way Out book from the Health Store. Understanding the original program is helpful I think. Then you can better understand the modifications people have made and decide what will be best for YOU.
Ditto what Greenie said about nutrition and LOTS of water.
