Good morning, lovelies! Today is President's Day, a government holiday, a celebration of the birthdays of some of our greatest Presidents. The children of off school, so it will be a quiet day on the roadways at least. I do SO love hearing of your different celebrations and customs; I've learned more about the world in the last two years than in the last two decades!!

Hi Jackie Claire,

I too have a lemon that has been lurking in the kitchen since Christmas, actually half a lemon slightly squeezed, used on smoked salmon, fell down behind the fruit/veg rack. It was begging for mercy so I put it out of its misery this morning.

My lentern promise is not so much to give up something but to do something for others so I am working on a plan to do just that..have a meeting tonight to discuss some voluntary work at a peoples resource centre..bit nervous about doing it,actually hugely nervous but here goes!

Bandit, I have a huge belief that those of us who have problems with AL are overly sensitive and introspective, and getting outside of our problem by helping others also helps us focus on others instead of ourselves. I'm thinking of joining a theatre group locally, and also volunteering with the children's advocacy group here. (In my spare time, LOL). Idle hands are the devil's workplace, so I'm sure to keep my busy all the time.

Hi RubyWillow,

I completely agree with you about the sensitivity and introspection. I have always worked in jobs that have involved helping others but unfortunately I have always found that with the type of community development initiatives that I have been involved with that politics and egos get in the way. I tend to end up very disillusioned and find it hard to 'stand up' to those throwing their weight about.

I am volunteering to do career/jobs club workshops and also english classes. The work itself is not an issue but more so the management structure, I think they find it hard to believe that someone justs wants to do something for the sake of being nice and not because of some hidden agenda,maybe this is just part of the irish psyche but I fear it is universal.
Good luck with your own initiatives, they sound great!

I think I'm going to drive up here today. The Whalehead Club at Heritage Park - Corolla, North Carolina

I was fascinated by it when we vacationed at that part of the banks years ago. I could not stay away - it was run down then and I was trespassing but I was just drawn so to it. Ruby you'd love it - full of history. It depends on if a place I want to eat lunch is open on Manday. :H

I think I've read about that place, Greenie. I absolutely grieve for old buildings that are left to ruin; guess I got that from my Daddy. And I simply HATE modern architecture.

starty look at the whalehead club link above. I think I'll drive up there today. A couple lived there in the early 1900's. I haven't seen it since it was restored.
