Hey Greeneyes and DG, yes it's day 8 of lent..cant believe I made it AL free this far...some nights the only thing that saves me is something anything sweet....once any sweets are out of this house I vow not to buy anything...except sugar free...cuz while not having the AL I dont wanna blow up from too many sweets...but in the very beginning some times its the only thing that helps me get thru an urge....I too am hoping to shake the sugar crave while ridding my body of the AL....any suggestions for supplements or something to help w/the cravings???
:goodjob: on giving up AL for lent!!!! Just my own thought on it, but initially you might want to give yourself a bit of leeway with sugar to help you through. It's way better to choose some candy rather than some booze if push comes to shove. In the long run though, I think continued use of sugar just makes AL cravings worse.

The same supplements that help with AL cravings also help with sugar cravings. (L-Glutamine in particular) If you haven't already read the My Way Out book, you might want to down load it. Some of the connections between nutrition deficiencies and cravings for AL and sugar are covered there. Also, another good author on the subject is Julia Ross. Either The Diet Cure or The Mood Cure are good reads!

Mean time, hang in there on your AL Free Lent!! You are doing great!!

        Sugar-Free Lent

        Hey All,

Checking in on my sugar free friends. Sugar cravings are starting to go away although I have to say that all of the GS cookies that arrived in my house for distribution are most tempting. I have also decided to go starch free, ie., no breads, pastas, etc. This seems to help immensely with sugar cravings. They go hand and hand. So, it's protein, fruit, and veggies for me and that's about it. Made an orange slushy today. One orange, seltzer water, and stevia in the blender and down the hatch. Very tasty.

DG, I hear ya on the thyroid stuff. I'm on the Nature throid and it doesn't seem to work as well. My doc put me on T3 (cytomel) too and that helps because I have difficulty converting T4 to T3.

I haven't logged on for a few days so I'm off to check the monthly abs thread.

                  Where is everyone

                  Hey,

I have not logged in for 2 days and I found this thread on the second page. What happened?

I'm still chugging along on sugar free and starch free and have lost a few lbs! Another reminder that carbs and sugars are just not good for me.

Come out, come out, wherever you are

OK today is day 12? So far so good. Little stevia in my coffee covers it. I do think about the candy that I know is here, but soon I'll be home where - well when I get home there won't be any FOOD, much less candy. :H I think I can get past the candy isle without falling to my knees like in K-Mart that first week. :H

Well, I haven't had any treats since the dried up brownie.

I still have a major urge for a sweet treat after a meal. I need to get more trail mix. I have allowed myself my dark chocolate though. I know! I am a cheater and weak and wishy washy! But it's hard! :upset::upset::upset:

My MIL baked cookies for my guys--and they are sitting on my counter taunting me. So I feel the dark chocolate is justified. (BTW---FWIW)

                                GAAAAAAHHH!!!! CAVED!! :b&d:

But honestly, it was an accident!! I needed to refill the M&M peanut jar (that I polished off before Lent) so I opened the bag (thinking I would eat just ONE or three) and when I was putting it up on the shelf I dropped it!! Really! I had to shoo little doggie away and collected them all and blew the dog hair off and put them back in the jar except for the broken ones that had to be eaten..... and then it went downhill....Bob the tonsil made me.
