JC, when we had our lodge in the middle of the bush on the Crocodile River, with nary a shop for miles, I grew my own herbs! It is sooo rewarding, having everything on hand to cook with...and the antelope didn't touch it!! They eat everything else in sight, but didn't appear to go for herbs...fortunately for my guests from all over the world!!

The only thing I'll have to worry about is a couple of mangy cats.
If I had antelopes in the garden they could have anything they wanted.
              Must dash,taters boiled.

Back in 1969, being a Game Ranger just wasn't an option financially...in fact, they are still very poorly paid...he had an uncle who was a very well known surgeon, whom tony really admired, so he followed that path, and he was really excellent at what he did. But not many people get a chance to fulfill their first love, even for a short while, like Tony did! As I said, I'm really happy that he had that chance..we had our own open game vehicle, boma and the whole deal! Sublime, really!

Almost! I had a Kudu, called Lady, she was of course wild, but used to come and lie on the lawn every morning under the bid Jackalberry tree and chew the cudd. Tony was out driving the guests in the open game vehicle, and I was always between cooking meals/baking, so I used to take my mug of coffee out there, and sit and chat to her!
Try and get hold of a book by a Game Ranger's wife, Kobie ?Kotzee/Kruger, called Mahlangeni(the name of their Ranger station on the Letaba River, in Kruger Park. I loved it so much, I called my lodge Mahlangeni..if you cam't find it, I'll post you a copy! She wrote a sequel called all thinngs great and small.

Nighters Starts and everyone about. I must get some sleep..have a Drs appointment tomorrow...my ICU days have finally caught up with my spine!!:upset:
