    THE NEXT DAY THREAD, March

    Blooming heck !
This week is flying. Is time speeding up or summat ? It's like a sequence from 'Lost'.
Running around like a hairy goat getting some medical type stuff sorted out (boring arsed middle aged stuff) which, I'm becoming increasingly convinced, will help me in the long term to keep the booze at bay.
I'm also trying to sort out some more regular grown up work. Jeez though there doesn't appear to be much work out there.....but if it's there I'll search and destroy til I find it.
I went out to eat with my 'last bastion' friends last night. The ones who are the only big drinkers left in my arsenal of friends (interesting in itself). Once again managed to have just one glass of bubbles, was offered a second and third, but they're getting the message that I just am not 'a drinker' any more. Don't get me wrong, I would not DREAM of keeping alcohol in the house.....danger Will Robinson...... but if I can keep it to the 1 drink don't drive DON'T have a secret stash waiting at home system.....TM.....then I MAY just have cracked it.....we'll see.....and the drinking driving thread over yonder this morning is so scary...
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

        THE NEXT DAY THREAD, March

have been thinking of you aspy - hope it all goes well when it al happens.

Well I completely lost the plot last night and bought wine. It was when I got home from the hospital pretty tired and opened the mail and found a letter from our power company saying they are going to disconnect us on Monday. This is because we have not paid a $2,500 bill that they sent us in December and that we have questioned (our normal bill is around $200.) They promised us a review in January but it has never been done .... and every month I ring them and ask for a report on progress and every month they tell me that it will soon be completed. And every month I pay them $200 as a sign of good faith but unfortunately the Feb bill arrived the day after my brother died, and I aven't exactly had bll payments at the top of my list.

So today I've been trying to deal with that and having to deal with it hungover to boot. Feeling very sorry for myself all around. Am going to go home early and play with kittens to make myself feel better!

            THE NEXT DAY THREAD, March

            Hello all,
Been scrolling back to try to catch up on things.
Miss Behaving, I was in Tonga in 1996 as official piper for the King's 76th birthday celebrations. (My only claim to fame).
This will give you an idea why I haven't been posting for the last umpty weeks.
Downstairs flooring is getting done as I type, I oiled the kitchen outside deck this morning , two minutes after the last nail went in, the missing 3 boxes of tiles arrived and Mr Rags took an hour off work to pick them up and bring them home for the tiler, the towel rails are going up now, whilst Gavin is down at Bunnings getting timber for zen garden framework (outside the kitchen) and some 5 minute set epoxy. Oh, and the fridge man came at 8:30 and fixed it and re-gassed it.... Am still cheesed off that they didn't replace it, but I guess if I bought a new car and something went wrong they wouldn' t give me a replacement car. I am about to organise shelf for recess in the shower, then 2nd coat of deck oil. All go at Mt Keira!!!

              Hi Miss,

You've been having such a bad time lately. Don't beat yourself up for drinking yesterday - I'm sure you've already realised that it didn't help. Hop back into the saddle and congratulate yourself for all those other times you didn't drink.

I've been reading that thread. I'm just a bit annoyed that someone took the risk and is now angry that they may lose their license. And employing an attorny with the hope of NOT losing it on the grounds that she was treated badly by the poilce; has health problems.

In most developed countries, it's an automatic ban for drink-driving. And it's well publicised. The whole point of the ban is to punish, to make life difficult.

Am I missing something? Sorry, if it's all gone over my head. I just think if you risk driving after a drink then you risk losing your licence, and possibly job etc.

                  Hi Miss,
Can you go to the Ombudsman? Also, are you sure they will disconnect? Over here electricity is regarded as essential, and they don't disconnect as you can then go them for all sorts of things such as no power = no fridge = my medication spoils and I die.
                  Just a thought.

Or call and speak to a manager. Get a name and reference number for the call before you explain your case.

Then explain everything - your payments and their lack of communication. Be firm without being aggressive and tell them that you want this problem solved within 24 hours.

                    Good luck, Missy. xx

Thanks for all the lovely thoughts. I'm not beating myself up and I'm back on the horse, I just dont want to justify it to myself in a way that sets a precedent!!

Part of the problem with this energy company is that there has been no transparency and no accountability ...... managers promise to ring back and dont, do not give their names or job titles, nothing is ever put on paper (except bills!) and every time we have written to them, we dont even get an acknowledgment let alone a response to the substantive issue. The other thing is that when the industry was de-regulated, an industry complaints process was established ...... but it only applies to the companies that voluntarily sign up to it. Most of the companies do, but this particular one is one of the two that have not ...... so the Electricity Complaints Commission has no jurisdiction!!

Anyway, I had a bit of success this afternoon ..... I had sent off email to their credit control people outlining the facts of the situation (as you said Spam, firm but not aggressive!), what we had done to try to resolve the issues (and we have a good record of absolutely every phone call and contact we have had with them) and the fact that we had had no response at all. Long and the short of it is that we had a very gracious email late this afternoon from a senior manager offering a full apology and promising a more substantive response within 24 hours, and rescinding the disconnection notice.

But we are still going to change suppliers. We went for this one because it was the cheapest, but it just has not been worth the hassle.

Rags how neat! I love pipe bands and brass bands!!

And wow, those renovations sounds like they are loving along at a cracking pace!! Wont it be lovely when you can just relax and enjoy them!!

Looking forward to seeing your new avatar Aspman!

Geez MissB - with that sort of power bill you'd have to be running a meths.amph. lab., a reflux still and a hydroponic dope growing system! Surely they can see that there's something a little awry? Hope you get it sorted but like Bridge says, get back on the wagon to your strong fighting place.

Re the DUI thread - I'm not sure if one of the issues there is that the cops didn't actually do a breath or blood test but I know that I will NOT drink and drive and believe me, I've done so in the past and have no idea how I escaped being caught. I would be totally stuffed if I lost my license now and I'm just not prepared to risk it - even if I'd had "only two". Not trying to preach here but I've had to change my lifestyle, friends, social situations drastically. It's been well worth it.

Yep I agree Froglet. This has been a much bigger lifestyle change than I imagined at first.
I've had to cull some toxic friendships, habits (apart from drinking itself), environments, contacts.

                          Hi Raggsy !
