Here is my ideal drinking pattern. Whats yours?

As some of you may know, I am on my 5th day of Antabuse, after drinking heavily every evening of the week for 5-6 years.

However, I'd like to drink like this:

    * Nothing at all during weekdays or before working on saturdays
    * 4-5 small bottles of 5% beer once or twice during the weekends
    * 1-4 small bottles of beer every day during vacations and such
    * Nothing on sundays

That vould have been great for me. But I drink like this:

    * 10-12 beers every evening during the week
    * 10-20 beers fridays and saturdays, plus drinks, wine, or what is presented to me
    * 8-12 beers on sundays, plus some spirits

Right now I don't drink anything of the Antabuse, but I'd rather be drinking in moderation. What are your thoughts on this?

    OBTW: :new:

Course we'd all love to drink like that but (with me anyway) its absolute fantasy, I might as well say I'd like to be Alice in Wonderland!!

Hey Scand, your actual drinking pattern is a lot like mine, so that is why I have decided to stop drinking. Personally, I tried a hundred different moderation ratios, formulas, ways to bank beer and drink more other days...it doesn't work for me. I don't just want one. Period. I don't know about you.

If you could stick to your ideal numbers, I am sure that would be fine. But from looking at what your habit is, I am not certain that without changing a great deal of your habit first, that you could slip into your ideal situation.

        Hi Scan,
My understanding of antabuse is that it basically the last tool in the box to fight the addiction/habit/disease. It can take anything up to 7 days to fully get out of your system.

So before you have that 1st small bottle of beer to be on the safe side you are going to have to wait a week for a bottle of beer.

After reading your past drinking patterns your dream of being able to have a few drinks now and again is way off and sorry to be harsh ,but probably impossible.
I have never taken antabuse, but have a few friends that have. Perhaps those who have used it can help.

        Please take care.

hi scan,i avoided your thread yesterday, all giv my 2 cents worth,as wagon said, your addiction, not that your alchoholic, yet,is raging, obviously you have some control,rt now,its actually scary for someone to look at your pattern, one is society has lied to you,it is not normal to drink, specially the way youve written it down, there are some drinkers that are worse then others, lets face it,looking at your consumption as a so called normal person,or a specialist in addiction, one would think ,with the amount you consumed, your mind[brain]is on the brink of disaster,i beleive scientists have linked alzheimers and damencia to front lobe to over drinking and drug abuse in a percentage of older people, you be the judge and jury,is drinking that important,it takes many years to enjoy sobriety, stopping is only the beginning, its the liviing without,is the stumbling block,i wish you well, gyco

My thought is that if you could moderate you would not be a candidate for antabuse.

Or that if you are on antabuse (and it's come to this) you are not a candidate for moderation.

I don't mean to be cruel, just being honest. I've had the same thoughts, plans, etc. I joined a list for people who want to moderate. I thought I could be one of them. Ok, so maybe I could really get by with one bottle of wine ONE week but then in short order I am back to my regular drinking habits and worse.

Hang in there. You are doing great on the antabuse.

I'm an advocate of ZERO. I know from experience that moderation leads to binges for me.
