        A mud hut by the sea Mr G ?
        I'm quite near the sea matey....rust is a big problem...and I'm not just talking about my joints now...
        Hiya Rubes ...it's not over yet love...I'm just a bit slow.....but a further foray into the wardrobe is NOT out of the question....thanks for the idea.......

                    Hah ... that little bloke was in and out of my place in three days. I applied my usual principle of "Visitors are like fish - after three days they start to stink". It works.

                            Tawny,

                            I have to say I am impressed.

                            I have many questions though...

                            The first that comes to mind, being a southern girl who grew up around many farms, straw bales that are piled together get bacterial build up and then heat up from that bacteria and then ignite.

                            How do you keep that from happening?

                            I love the idea of using something other than trees, gypsum, fiberglass, etc, to build a home. Straw grows much faster than timber.

                            Once, hubby built a passive solar room on a house we lived in. I'll never forget sitting in that room while the temperatures were in the teens (Fahrenheit) and without any supplemental heat source, we stayed warm and cozy.

                            I am now Googling like mad on straw bale homes.

                            btw, Good on you for following a dream and making it happen. Many of us consider our dreams but never follow through. You did.
