THE NEXT DAY THREAD - APRIL
Lordy,
It's quiet around here isn't it?
I'm sitting here with my cuppa, already having had a major domestic with the boy, and having cancelled his plans for the day.
I've really noticed that when I'm not drinking I get right on top of discipline. I just cannot tolerate the cheeky disrespectful stuff. It makes me wonder what I've ignored in the past, just so I can get on with slugging wine. I'm also aware that I have to earn the boy's respect back, but I'm conflicted you know ? I can't go soft on discipline now, (for his sake and mine) and tolerate him speaking to me badly, because of my guilt over being a 'wine-O-clock' Mum.
AT least I can provide him with consistency now, although it's still not my strongest point.
Anyway...Tigger and I have been off having a bit O fun...will post photos on other thread some time today.
Here is a spot of inspiration for today, which I scored from Sheri on another thread.
"So, rather than asking yourself if AF is all that's it's cracked up to be, why not switch it up, and ask if getting drunk is all that it's cracked up to be?"If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

And more mundanely, Shunryu Suzuki said "The most important point is to accept yourself and stand on your own two feet."
What if you're an amputee. Sorry It just jumped into my head.
So to end on a more sober thought, a zen proverb says... "He who seeds a thought harvests a destiny."
Now, isn't that something we all know about at MWO.

Morning Bridge, Supermodel et al,
I also like.......'Person who catch fly in chopstick, can do anything'
I actually had a beauty in my discombumbulated head, but will remember the fecker later no doubt.
Bridgos, you are absolutely without doubt a top mum, given your obvious sense of responsibility, common sense, decency, care et al, so it sounds like you're on the best path with your young bloke to me. Consistency is good of course, as you say, and i just think the young man is going to have to 'wear' his new, present, 'in the here and now' mum (said with respect, as i'm sure you've alway's been a great mum), who is sharper, sassyer, even more full of life than she ever might've been, and, possibly to his chagrin, right onto him, but in a loving way. He'll cop it, and get used to it for sure, and who couldn't love you Bridgos? If he hasn't already, he'll soon realise what a marvel his mum is. He needs the real Bridgos, and sounds like he's getting her!
(Sorry, i've just had Tony Abbott on the phone talking strategy/speech content)
Well, Sheri makes a good point as she often does. This af lark really is all it's cracked up to be, and more!
Another good little piece of prose for everyone, but especially, i think, for us who are abstinent, is 'The butterfly'. I have it on my fridge. It talk's about finally finding, and appreciating freedom after a long haul.
Funny though. I had an old aquaintance from afar stay for the w/kend a few months into my af'ness, and he saw all these little notes/quotes of inspiration around the house. He just blurted out...'shit G....you're an alcoholic!' I said, well, i have been partacking of my own hospitality a little toooo enthusiastically the last few year's, so much so that the last few year's were spent in more and more isolation, just drinking alone. Problem drinking, alcoholism, whatever we call it, is a progressive thing, and notoriously progressive as we get older, say 40's on, from what i see. So we must be careful, and also watch our children, relatives, neices, nephew's, who may have this tendency. I'm not a doc, but i reckon there's some truth that lovin' the grog might be in the genes.
A marvellous, embuggerance free day to all marikas and malakas.

For MrG and Reggie - Music Report:
When you first alerted me that Peter Green was coming to Melbourne, I checked details and found that John Mayall was also playing at The Prince the night before, so I booked for both nights. Later on I found that Mayall was playing closer to home so I gave the Green tickets away. Much to my delight, the recipients loved the gig and reported an almost religious experience when hearing Albatross and Black Magic Woman played live. Apparently the whole room burst into spontaneous lyrics when Green played Oh Well. (I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin ....) So, I didn't mind missing out on that one because my tickets went to the perfect, appreciative punters.
So I went to Castlemaine to see Mayall where Chris Wilson with Andy Baylor was the support act . Hadn't seen Andy since his old Dancehall Racketeers days. Great stuff. Then the Old Master himself put on a most generous 2.5 hours, doing stuff from the 70's and from his latest album. Hot band. Mayall is now 77, looks a million bucks and has lost none of his enthusiasm, grace and style. And he was in the foyer, selling CDs and t-shirts - not a minder in sight - chatting to people. Yup, I had a great convo with him. Told him one of my fave music DVD's was his "70th Birthday" gig which seemed to please him enormously.
Which made me wonder. Who the hell is going to turn up to see Lady Gaga when s/he's 77?
I shudder to think.
