    1st day of Baclofen!

    Hi everyone!
Just finished my first day of Baclofen and didnt get any side effects, not even the dopeyness and the tiredness! Went to meet a friend this evening and had 3 cokes while she hit the wine. I know tonight had nothing to do with the drugs but more to do with the idea of taking them, but, have to say, was the first time in a really long while, that I have managed to enjoy a night in a pub, and not get absolutely gangsta tripping, lol! Wow, what an amazing feeling! Felt like shouting to the police "come and breathalize me!!"(not that I drink and drive, but am pretty sure that there have been times when I would have been over the limit!). This site has just magically shifted my attitude towards drink. I am under no misconception of what lies ahead, but at least now there is a glimmer of light at the end of that hole. I would love to hear from anyone who has just started this Baclofen trip as im so very excited about it all. Also, anyone who has got around the socialising without getting pissed thing, thats going to be a hard one for me as I am actually a pretty sociable person and dont want to end up white knuckiling every social event, terrified I might loose control and drink anything I can get my hands on.
Thanks, and I cant say thankyou enough times, to everyone here who has taken the time to reply to my posts, the support here is truly amazing and really helps.
Anyway, enough of me and look forward to the next lot of advice.
    :thanks:

    1st day of Baclofen!

Santy, there's no silver bullet, but some things REALLY help. Sometimes people's habits are so ingrained that nothing physical can change the mental progression. It's a HABIT! But medication, helping to still the physical cravings help us focus on changing those habits. I'm SO happy you had such a great night out! Pray it continues.

Thankyou, you are always the first to post a reply. No, I do realise theres a lot more to taking a pil, but I do feel that since being on here, im more aware of what im doing. Its also a relief to talk about it openly, as I have found it hard to bring up with friends. I really do think its hard to admit your drinking has gone too far and is now a problem. Also what once was funny, isnt anymore. My friend lost her brother last year, they werent sure whether it was suicide or not. He had been in hospital that many times with drink related problems that his family were sick of him. When he died, loads of his friends posted pictures on facebook of him when he was off his face. To those close to him this hurt so much, but to his mates down the pub, who were clueless, it was just him having fun. If only they knew the pain that was going on inside him. If you look at the pictures of him you can see the agony in his eyes and I wonder if he had found somewhere like this, or been able to tell someone he was drowning, then would he of been alive today, who knows. Anyway, im rambling, sorry x

        1st day of Baclofen!

        Santybury,
Congratulations. I am a success story of bac. I have recently been hit with three big social opprotunities but the great thing with bac is that it has given me the mental capability to know in my heart that I cannot drink anymore, I do not drink anymore and it doesnt bother me. I am 56 days af on bac and I would say by day 20, I knew that I did not want AL in my life anymore, and I dont care what the situation is, alcohol does not need to be a part of it. You will be there too. I have never in twenty years of drinking thought I would ever not be a drinker.

          Hi HFTB
Thanks for the reply. Day 2 for me and today I upped the dose and am feeling really tired but not like drinking a bottle of wine which is great! Ive heard mainly positive stuff about Baclofen, did you have any bad side effects at all? Be great to hear your experiances of it, good and bad.

            1st day of Baclofen!

            Hey, santybury

You might want to start a thread on the Meds Forum - most of our fellow "bac-heads" hang out there.

I'm another bac success story - I'm more than 7 months sober. Bac is only part of the picture, though. It won't do all the work for you, especially once you're AF - you still need to (or at least, I had to) address the issues that got you on the path of alcoholism. I'm on very good terms with my psychologist

Best of luck to you on your journey!

              1st day of Baclofen!

              Hey santybury

How much are you up to today? There are some great posts about the SEs and experiences people have had on various progress threads, be sure to check them out! In my experience (I'm always sensitive to meds) the sleepiness and tranciness can hit anytime you increase the dose, but everyone differs. For me, I've had to increase very very slowly as a result.

Best of luck, and please keep us all posted how you get on
I don't come here much anymore but you can always mail me at rotunda 2000 at hotmail dot com (no spaces). Might be able to help with Bac emergencies

                  Awesome for you Santybury.
Use your tiredness to catch up on some rest instead of hitting the bottle, thats what I did. Before you know it, you will notice that not drinking is the normal routine not the other way around. I had very minimal side effects, mostly the tiredness but it will pass and the overwhelming feeling of accomplishment and happiness will take over and you will beging to feel a new high, a healthy high.

Am I a "bac head!", lol! been called a lot of things but not that one!! I know that its not going to do all the work, believe me. After starting off with a pretty nasty eating disorder, I began my councelling path a long while ago, at the age of 23 to be precise. I realised that puking your guts up 3 plus times a day whilst pregant wasnt the healthiest of lifestyles and that very likely, there was something wrong! Unfortunately, old habits die hard and I still hold on to that one when im stressed. Also aquired the drinking habit in my 20's and the 2 have always been with me. The drinking problem has caused the most problems as when pissed, I believe all the shit that I try so hard to hold inside, pours out, it can be an ugly sight, but I understand what is going on in me now days. Through all my councelling, I have realised that I am more than my problems, they are just a part of me and I own them, if you like. I know, that fundamentaly, im a good person and I see that in so many of the wonderful people on this site. What always amazes me is the fact that everyone on here, like me, look into themselves, their behaviour and the impact it has on people around us. Very often however, we are the product of the crap other pivotal people in our lives, have heaped,(projected!) onto us. I feel we all have a lot to offer and I am so happy to have found this site and the brave people on here.
Anyway, thankyou for the advice, this Baclofen and you guys here have given me a hope I have not felt before as far as beating my Alcoholism. Thankyou all x

I'm glad you're doing so well, santybury! I'm not on bac, but who knows what the future will bring? It's good for others to see your experience with it.
