Sunny, praying for rain here, but none in the forecast for a week. But then, what do the weather people know?? :H
Thank you all again for putting up with my rants. Maybe I'm getting senile!! But I am flexible now, willing to learn and try new things. And you all are so special to me.
Rog is coming tomorrow!!! YAY!!!!!!  I SO wanted him to come to my home, and the cabin, but it's just too much to get 2 houses ready (to my standards) for visitors. And all I really want is to be the best host ever for my dear friend and his family. I can't seem to get to the comfortable stage in having guests. Am I doing enough? Are they REALLY enjoying themselves? What more can I do to make things better?? I know this is not the way to approach this, we're supposed to enjoy ourselves, but the old Southern hostess in me has trouble relaxing. It's a trait I need to overcome.
I wish you ALL were coming! Jump on a jet! Get in your car!! What a wonderful time we would have.
Off now to finish my preps here, be sure I have everything but the kitchen sink to be ready for everything. I tend to overpack, and my poor dogs have to find a place in it all. Gotta shave Berit's butt later, she's getting her summer itch. So we will be checking in rarely, but I'll take lots of pics. And if you have any doubts my invitation isn't real, PM me. I'll give you directions! Rog gets to meet TMB for the first time, and I'm sure after she checks him out for a while, she'll love him.
I'll miss you all, but stay strong, and carry on our path. GAWD, I talk a lot!!! :H

Ruby-I for one am glad that you "talk alot". You are a true southern lady-charming and all and of course you are a great hostess! I know you will enjoy your visit from Roger & Sue & Luke and if I wasn't so dang far away, I would love to be there too. I know how to make biscuits & gravy - but I'm sure not as good as you!! Have fun (?) shaving Berit's butt...you are a good Momma. I'm sure TMB will love Roger! My german shepherd is so protective that last night when we were out back in the garden, some lady running for office came to the other side of the house....he bit her because she got out of her car and went to the door! We do have our property posted with Beware of Dog signs....he really is a good dog...just very protective of us.

Have a great time - and don't forget to rest and enjoy. Roger's not coming there to be entertained by you, he wants to spend time with his sweet friend.

              Love ya.:l

Grateful, take your beware of dogs sign, now! I've had a lot of experience with this sort of thing, but putting that sign up tells people, legally, you're aware you have a dangerous dog. And it doesn't matter she was on you property. Lawyers are really slick, and will say your dog should have been contained if you knew it COULD hurt someone. Here, you're responsible for all medical bills, even plastic surgery or counselling for traumatic stress disorder. The only time they're not liable is if they're protecting you from immenint danger. Check NOW what your homeowners insurance provides for, and be as nice and helpful to her as you can. But that will also alert them to the fact you have a biting dog, and could affect your premiums. I'm so sorry, because I really understand how you feel, but cover your butt right now. In some places, this could lead to destroying a dangerous dog. We've been super careful with our big dogs, because I don't want to expose them to these possibilities.
I SO hope she will be understanding, and an animal owner. Did she go to the ER? It's a lot like criminal's rights versus victims rights when it comes to animals. Find out if there is a leash law where you live. If so, it makes it worse, because dogs are supposed to be contained at all times, even on your property. I know it's for the public's protection, but there are SO many uncaring dog owners out there who want only big, bad, fighting dogs.
I'm so sorry to tell you all this, but dog bites are notorious, high-profile, suit-inspriring events. Just take care, be sure your dog is completely up-to-date on his shots. It's a very common mistake people make that if they're on YOUR property, you're safe. Unless your area is a lot different from the boonies in Georgia, do your homework, prepare for any contengincy, and hope she will cooperate. Check out all the animal control laws where you live. This will work out eventually, and you will have a lot more info in the future.

Ruby, thanks so much for that information. I thought it would be better posted about the dogs.
She didn't get bit that bad-but he did draw blood. She seemed okay with it. I will look into the laws in our Township...but I think we probably do have a leash law. We live so far off the road and have so many acres, that I hate tying him up. I would love to fence in a portion of our yard "one of these days"...you know how that goes. It's so scary--as I said, he really is a nice dog..just protective of us. Uggh-I would hate to have him put down...he is my baby.

I will definitely do some research though. Thank you so much!!!

It's actually illegal here to tether or chain a dog. I think that is a good thing, and I regret ever doing it.
As long as it wasn't a viscious attack, you most likely will only have hospital/doctor bills you're responsible for. As I've pointed out and posted before, I'm almost a fanatic about our responsibility in owning animals. I've spent thousands to keep my ANIMALS safe, not concerned as much about strangers. Know my dogs well, understand them and their instincts. But I never want them to suffer because of me. They were my only support system till I came here. If I'm home alone at night, I can't sleep without TMB next to my bed. I know you'll do the right thing, and this will be a learning experience about owning your pet. The bond is almost indescribible. I posted earlier today that more than once in my association, life, love, of my pets have they saved my loved ones.
But this is a very strong warning to all pet owners that we need to protect them as much as the strangers who come in contact with them. As a Post Office worker, I encountered several dangerous dogs. The owners didn't understand their responsibility before their dogs attacked. Some dogs have no discretion when it comes to people on their property. I know what mine will do, and take precautions. But most of the time it's not their fault, but their humans, who haven't trained them in how to watch, deal, and obey when they get upset.
I'm not chastising you, honey. I just want you to learn your laws, protect yourself and your wonderful dog. I can't watch the animal shelter commercials without crying. Gator came from an animal shelter where I volunteer. I overload myself, as with everything else I do.
Another bit of info I really didn't know until recently. Cats, free-roaming, unalterred that contrubute a huge amount of distruction on our environment. Having any pet not contained, that roams freely, contributes to the overpopulation of unwanted animals. It took me a long time to really understand that. Maybe 1 animal out of a litter ends up with the care they need. I could really go on about their suffering, but won't. Also, cats are not native to this country. They have a very negative affect on natural wildlife, because they don't discriminate between pests and endanged species. It's not their fault, it's ours.

See, I can't help myself!!!. But again, I have causes that I'm so dedicated to. And you can believe, I'm that dedicated to you all. Having a difference of opinion, lifestyle, is fine, but if you need me, I'm here for you all. You are my lighthouse, my point of light. And if I EVER get too preachy with you, call me on it. I only want to share, help, love you all.

Ruby-I agree with you! I love all animals and I've taken in so many strays. You are absolutely right about the owner's responsibility.....we should have made sure he stayed in the back with us and we didn't hear the car coming down the driveway. I really have to figure out some way to be afford a fence-after all, the alternative would be to lose our house and/or lose my beloved Duke. Thank you, again, and I don't think you are preachy at all. You are just sharing your wisdom and I so appreciate that.

The Journey begins here so get YOUR ASSES IN GEAR!!!!

Wonderful, Grateful. Over my (long) lifetime, I've had and lost many pets. 7 years ago I bought my EX-DIL and son's granddaughter a wonderful little longhaired chihuahua. DIL had a nasty fit, in front of people, and I had to take the dog in and housebreak her, retrain her after she'd been neglected. Now, she's as much a member of the family as anyone. She has no idea she is a dog! :H
I paid for all her vet care for a long time too. Finally I told them, give me the damn dog, or take care of your own responsibilites. Of course, they wouldn't give her up, but finally I'm not getting hounded about her upkeep. She's a really wonderful little dog. The only one they've had for any length of time.
I had an idiot tenant once who got a German Shepherd, though they're not allowed in our houses. He waxed on and on about how within a few weeks he'd have it trained to stay on their property. Didn't happen. When it was a pup, he put it on the back of his truck, and it jumped off in heavy traffic on a 4-lane, destroyed it's leg. A few months later I found it locked in an overgrown pen, hobbling on it's usless leg. Contacted him, told him he had 2 days to get it med attention or I was calling the SPCA. He did it, but it soon died, and he went to pound and got 3 pit bulls, which soon attacked and nearly killed GD's mini horse next door. He paid all the vet bills, and no longer lives on my property.
As you see dogs have long been my passion.
Again, another rant. (I'm talking and I can't shut up!!) But there is no excuse in my mind for abusing, neglecting people and animals. If I was a millionaire, I'd probably spend it all on their rescues You'll all be happy to know I'll be out of much contact for the next week, so you won't have to listen to my tirades. I just get really hyped up about animals, and our responsibility to them.
K', doing a little checking here, then SLEEP!!! Gotta be really on my game when Rog gets here!! Hope he gets along with TMB, otherwise it COULD get ugly!! Can't wait to meet Sue and Luke.
Night, my lovelies. You'll be with me all next week.
