    AL Detox Time

Sounds like fun doing the shopping part. Although I don't mind painting. My next project is purging the boy's room (old clothes, toys) and then getting to the painting. They have bunkbeds coming soon so I must get it all finished before then.

Well I really need to get off the computer and get to my morning run before morning is over. I am procrastinating big time. This is much more enjoyable!

Good luck with the bedroom and I'll let you know if I have success from my end!

      AL Detox Time

Fellow Canadian here. I started my AF free journey yesterday (I've started many times) and want to keep looking at your posts to stay motivated. It's so easy to drink. Society pushes drinks at us from every aspect. But "I am on medication" or "my stomach's a little off" or whatever excuse is needed will be used because the minute I say "I am trying to quit" they push it on me more. Come On.. . just have one. Meech, I am with you and will anxiously watch for your posts as encouragement for me.

        AL Detox Time

Meech, I just read this thread and was so impressed with your success this weekend. I am AF 13 days now and heading for 30. And then 30 more and 30 more, etc. But I am okay with just today for right now. I really loved reading about your weekend because I have a really tough one coming up in two weeks and I know it is going to be challenging. And there are now lots of people that I can melt into. Just my husband and I and another couple that really plans on a big wine weekend. I think I am going to call before I even go and say that I will not be drinking. Maybe that will ease the pressure a bit.
But congratulations on your weekend. Well done. I have been diving heavily into cookie dough ice cream for the last 4 days and know that I need to quickly find something else. I can already see a belly forming! But hey, better than 12 beers, a hangover and all empty calories! I am looking forward to your Day 30! And then will you be going for another 30? prancy

          Tipplerette,
I hope my posts can encourage you! You are at the beginning of your journey. And it really does go fast. Just stick to your guns. Fight off the first drink because the 2,3,4 is only harder. The craving does fade you have to ride it out. Believe in yourself and that it will fade. I find an AF drink or something opposite (Chocolate, yogurt, chocolate milk) really helps to curb the cravings when they hit. STAY BUSY. You can do this.

Prancy - congrats on 13 days. Tomorrow is 2 WEEKS. :goodjob:
You REALLY have to have a plan in place for the weekend. Make a Promise to yourself that you will do a few things first before reaching for that first drink. Whatever has worked for you so far. Maybe Promise you will have 2 AF drinks (hopefully after that the worst cravings will be over and you can beat the beast). AND/OR Eat first. That's a huge one for me. When I'm hungry I'm really vulnerable. Think about resting your head on a sober pillow that night and how pumped you'll be when you wake up the next more rather than shamed and self-hatred. AL - It's not worth it.

Thanks for following my thread. And I hope I can keep inspiring!!! :h:h

I went to this great market close by and got a bunch of Italian sparkling sodas today. I figure if I can find some I like, I can take it with me and then I will have something to drink that isn't just water. I made a black cherry and blood orange soda with a splash of club soda and mint. It was pretty good.

Home from my swim and ate. Didn't think much about alcohol at all when I got home. Swam 2400m with lots of kicking drills so ready for some relaxation and sleep. Did a 10km run this morning so the legs are officially done. Have missed the supps once today and twice yesterday so I must take them now and get back on track!

HC - Sorry to hear about your son being taken off the football team/losing his scholarship. Hard lesson learned from him. Sucks. Well this could be a big life lesson although it is very sad. My heart goes out to you all.

Papmom - Have a great day tomorrow! Glad the talkative canine got a good workout too. If the soreness is in the thighs (quads) that's probably because the muscles are just strengthening and getting use to a new exercise. I wouldn't worry to much about that. If it's in the joints (like your foot pain) that's a different thing. Great job on the exercise!!!

Hi Meech. Sorry I havent been around for a few days. You read my story on Papmoms thread so you know why I have been M.I.A. Yes, sad and tough - but if it makes him think twice next time, it will be a good lesson. I love my son but gosh he can be hard work.
You are getting quite a few followers now. As Tipplerette says, you are very inspirational. Well done on getting thru that weekend. Doesnt it give you so much power to know that you can do it. You KO'ed that beast well and truly. What's worth the prize is always worth the fight.
What is in a virgin caesar? We are so backwards when it comes to anything different here. I tried to get a non-al drink in a pub recently and they looked at me like I was an alien.
Tipple - you are right in saying people try and encourage you to drink if you tell them you are not drinking. When people give up smoking they are congratulated on it being such a wise, healthy choice. However when you say you are giving up or trying to cut back, there is just no support at all. I have a very close friend who gets really upset because I wont drink AL with her anymore. But that is because she has a huge problem with AL and I think me not drinking highlights the amount she does.
Prancy - cookie dough ice cream.......... yummmmm my favourite.... I havent lost any weight since giving up! I have started taking L-glut again because that reduces sugar cravings. And it is amazing how much it does reduce it.
My husband is away tonight and in my previous life it was a time for me having a HUGE binge...... would start drinking early and continue going all night. I actually quite enjoyed it too as I would crank up the music and dance around the kitchen. (Havent tried dancing sober yet!)
Well done on your achievements as you must be at day 30 now. I will call in again tomorrow.
                  Take care and stay strong.

hey Meech, I am totally awed by all the physical activity you do every day!! You also like to paint rooms? Come on over LOL!! I HATE HATE HATE painting and therefore my house is dull, dull, dull but I'm hardly in it and don't entertain so I don't really care. Get those supps back in you OK? I truly believe they are one of the keys to staying AF as our brain chemistry has been so screwed up by the AL and it will be many months until it treats AF as being normal instead being pickled.

HC- LOL I remember dancing around the house with a good buzz on too!! I almost felt manic at times!! Now I feel on a more even keel and the urge to dance isn't there yet but one day it will be.

Have a great AF day you guys and remember to Hang 10 until the wave is a ripple!!

                      Day 29 AF

Hi Papmom, yes I cranked up the supps last night and I am back on track. Eventhough I was away for 2 days and brought all my supps in a little baggy, I wasn't very diligent amount taking them.

Well I had planned on a BIG bike this morning and although I don't use bad weather to stop my workouts it is absolutely pouring outside. I'll see if someone can take my littlest guy this afternoon if the skies clear up. Grrrrrrrrr. Guess I better do housework.

The reason why I am going nutso with the workouts is I have my first triathlon of the season in just over a week. So this is my last week of really hard workouts before I have to taper before race day. Trust me if it wasn't for the race forcing me, I would be slacking a bit more.

Have a great day. Okay now I not only want some warmth but maybe a little sun too??

                      Check in later!

Oh yes. That is so true. Well said!
Morning. I had the night to myself (no husband, away at a board meeting), so I had a fantastic sleep and was awake about an hour earlier than I set my alarm so. So I chucked the cats out, made a coffee and jumped back into bed with my laptop. So nice to be all snuggly yet able to get my fix of MWO.
I thought you guys were heading into summer? With all this rain and thunderstorms about your way, makes me wonder who is having the summer weather and who is having the winter weather. We are day two of winter, and today is going to be a lovely sunny day again, although not too warm, I still cant complain about 20 degrees celcius. No rain or wind. The world is turning upside down! ( I would like a day of drenching rain.......).
I agree with you both on taking the supps. Although I have reduced what I am taking now. I was taking all the ones suggested in the book however when the ones for liver function ran out I havent replaced them. I still take the AllOne, evening primrose oil and occassionally l-glut when I need to. I am also taking a very strong dose of St John's Wort as an anti depressant and three calms fortes in the evening. There was something in one of the supps that was preventing cold sores, however I have had two in the last week (I look like frankensteins monster at present) so am not sure whether I need to start taking them all again or whether it was just the stress of my week ( quite possible as it was very stressful). If I can avoid those horrible little things by taking a pill, I certainly will.
I dont know where you get the time to do triathlons Meech with three kids and two jobs! My brother used to do them years ago and I was quite involved with helping him, so I know all the effort required to get into peak condition for them. Good on you.
Well my peace and quiet is about to be shattered - time to get up those two lazybones and get ready for work and school.
Take care and see you later.
                            HC xx
                            I finally got it!

                              AL Detox Time

                              Hi Hippy,

Yes stress seems to bring out the dreaded cold sore for me. Or if I am fighting a cold sometimes that happens. And since you had both happening - double whamo. They always look worse I find right before they are all better. They're cracking, bleeding - yucko. I feel for you.

Part of the reason I got into triathons was the fun (seriously I do think this torture is fun). I have always been a big road runner and jumped into triathlons about 9 years ago. I also did it so I could be focussed on something healthy and hopefully not drink as much. FAILED. I've just half arsed my training for 8 years have way too many "easy or rest" days when I was conveniently hungover. I'm surprised I did it that way for so long. Sorry body, that was hell I put you through.

I find little windows in the day where I fit the training in. Plus part of my job involves running and biking so I can sneak it in there too. I just do Olympic distance tri's right now. Maybe once the smallest child is in school full time I'll branch out to 1/2 ironman. Time will tell. I sure can't do those things with AL in my life.

My favorite thing to do is hiking though. It can be a wonderful "free" activity. I'm glad Papmom is having such a great time on her hikes.

Glad you had time to snuggle and have a bit less stressful day today by the sounds of it.
Hope to hear from you tomorrow on how you are doing.

As for the weather.....summer is usually here by now but it doesn't feel like it. However we desparately need the rain, so I really should be thankful.

Take care. Tomorrow is day 30. Wow I really can't even believe it. Seems like just yesterday I was hungover and self-loathing. The AF days really do pile up, before I know it I'll be finished my 6 week Detox and be ready for the next challenge and gift to my mind and body.

Have nothing planned tonight so the AL Beast will be talking to me again. "Go away already!!"

BUT I will not give in tonight. It's my BIG 30 Days. Oh yeah I'm going to definitely ride this wave till it's a dribble.
