So sorry to hear about your mom and your husband Choochie, you give everyone so much support, but us newbies don't know much about you, I will support you any way I can. Just let me know if there is anything I can do.:l

First - I want to say GOOD LUCK to all you Quitters!!

Truly, if IIII can quit smoking - I really think I was Very addicted!.... anyone can! Dec. 25th will be my ONE year anniversary. I should say... not ONE puff in that time. And that's really the key. (I was "serial quitter" for years...)

I used little mantras I learned from a quit smoking site (quitnet.com), like: NOPE (Not One Puff Ever) and Smoking is NOT an Option!

Now, if I get a little urge (probably just psychological), I remind myself of how hard it was to quit, and I just don't want to be there again... Each crave you get past makes you a little stronger!

I'm sure it seems hard to believe, but there will come a time when you'll have a day here & there where you'll realize you didn't even Think about smoking -- then a few days in a row... etc.

That said, I haven't been doing well on the drinking. Just can't seem to take the first step. (I've quit for a month or two a few times in the past... but now... it's just so hard to wrap my head around even quitting for ONE bloomin' day!!)...

                DAY 7!!!

I'm feeling good. My daughter is in on this with me. Whenever I feel weak I put out my fist and say "Wonder Twin Power" and she says "Activate!!!". LOL (Or we text it, if we're not together!)

I know this is "dating" me, that cartoon came out in the 70's, she had no idea what I was talking about at first. (Still doesn't) :H All she knows is that I'm a dork...but a smoke-free dork!!

Good job K9. I've just decided. I have 8 cigarettes left and am going to go NF and CF with my AF challenge once they are gone.

Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

Just spent time reading this thread from the start, I am coming up for 7 months smoke free now and have never felt better..I am glad I have journaled my journey, it has done me good to go back and read it.

If I can stop smoking..ANYONE can......I really mean that....it's not easy, I found it harder than giving up the alcohol but there is some very good advice here on this thread, especially from Fallen Angel.....remember, A craving is NOT a command.....they do pass....Being a non smoker feckin ROCKS xxx

It's been a struggle for me forever. Since I started AA, they told me to give it at least 6 months before I quit while I get used to the program. When I lived with my grandparents years ago, both of them died of lung cancer - 8 months apart. It was a scary, sad time.

Thanks Oney. I appreciate that! And Deebs - February was around the 6 month mark for me, so I was going to tackle it then. Maybe we can do it together?
