    No More Butts...The Beginning..

    Morning all,
Well done Pie - you are doing great!
Talulablue - how are you going today?
Thank you Oney and Fallenangel for the support - I will take on board what you say about it being a challenge, rather than anything negative..
Day 3 NF for me today, or approximately 25 cigs not smoked! (i was a 10 a day smoker..) - I have been coughing heaps this morning, but I see it as a good thing, it shows my lungs are getting rid of all the cr*p the cigs accumulated in them, and the sooner I have quit, the better in the long run! I hope everyone has a fab NF (and AF!!) day today,
    xxx

I'm useless i caved in today :upset::upset::upset: I think i may have been too ambitious trying to quit smoking so soon into a new AF life. Being AF is my main priority and i guess i'm not ready to be completely crutch free at the moment. Sorry to everyone, feel like such a failure, going to try again in a month or so.

              Keep going y'all you're awesome!

                Hi Talula,

I had a similar experience and felt I needed to let go of my AL quit in order to hang on to the nicotine quit. Still NF here, but will need to try again with the alcohol when I feel stronger. No failures here! Everyone of us is ahead of where we started out. Lots to be proud of!

                    Morning all,
Talulablue - don't be so hard on yourself.. this is now the 4th time I have tried to quit.. we learn each time from our "slips" to have all the ammo we need for next time!
Expat - yay! welcome aboard - you can do this! I feel 100% better now ive quit - i have been coughing up alot of gunk (sorry if TMI!) but i can breath easier and feel so much healthier now..
Day 4 for me today.. I just thought I would copy and paste this list of benefits to your body from quitting:

Our body's ability to mend is beauty to behold ...

                    Within ...
                    20 minutes
Your blood pressure, pulse rate, and the temperature of your hands and feet will all return to normal.
                    8 hours
Remaining nicotine in your bloodstream will have fallen to 6.25% of normal peak daily levels, a 93.25% reduction.
                    12 hours
Your blood oxygen level will have increased to normal and carbon monoxide levels will have dropped to normal.
                    24 hours
Anxieties peak and within two weeks should return to near pre-cessation levels.
                    48 hours
Damaged nerve endings have started to regrow and your sense of smell and taste are beginning to return to normal. Cessation anger and irritability peaks.
                    72 hours
Your entire body will test 100% nicotine-free and over 90% of all nicotine metabolites (the chemicals it breaks down into) will now have passed from your body via your urine. Symptoms of chemical withdrawal have peaked in intensity, including restlessness. The number of cue induced crave episodes will peak for the "average" ex-user. Lung bronchial tubes leading to air sacs (alveoli) are beginning to relax in recovering smokers. Breathing is becoming easier and the lungs functional abilities are starting to increase.
                    5 - 8 days
The "average" ex-smoker will encounter an "average" of three cue induced crave episodes per day. Although we may not be "average" and although serious cessation time distortion can make minutes feel like hours, it is unlikely that any single episode will last longer than 3 minutes. Keep a clock handy and time them.
                    10 days
10 days - The "average ex-user is down to encountering less than two crave episodes per day, each less than 3 minutes.
                    10 days to 2 weeks
Recovery has likely progressed to the point where your addiction is no longer doing the talking. Blood circulation in our gums and teeth are now similar to that of a non-user.
                    2 to 4 weeks
Cessation related anger, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, impatience, insomnia, restlessness and depression have ended. If still experiencing any of these symptoms get seen and evaluated by your physician.
                    21 days
Brain acetylcholine receptor counts up-regulated in response to nicotine's presence have now down-regulated and receptor binding has returned to levels seen in the brains of non-smokers.
                    2 weeks to 3 months
Your heart attack risk has started to drop. Your lung function is beginning to improve.
                    3 weeks to 3 months
Your circulation has substantially improved. Walking has become easier. Your chronic cough, if any, has likely disappeared.
                    1 to 9 months
Any smoking related sinus congestion, fatigue or shortness of breath have decreased. Cilia have regrown in your lungs thereby increasing their ability to handle mucus, keep your lungs clean, and reduce infections. Your body's overall energy has increased.
                    1 year
Your excess risk of coronary heart disease has dropped to less than half that of a smoker.
                    5 to 15 years
Your risk of stroke has declined to that of a non-smoker.
                    10 years
Your risk of death from lung cancer has declined by almost half if you were an average smoker (one pack per day). Your risk of cancer of the mouth, throat and esophagus has now decreased.
                    13 years
Your risk of smoking induced tooth loss has declined to that of a never-smoker (2006 study).
                    15 years
Your risk of coronary heart disease is now that of a person who has never smoked.

                      No More Butts...The Beginning..

I detest smoking...yet I did it for 20yrs of my fairly young life.
Giving up cigs is the single best thing I've ever done.
I'm sending out strength to all on this thread.
Oners you're doing amazing mate - so pleased for you.
I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it but Allan Carr's "Easy Way to Quit Smoking" is a good read - really helps turn the thinking from feeling deprived to gratitude - essential for long term success I believe.
                      Rock on.

Oh, and Talula - I believe every attempt to quit is never a failure. It takes most people several attemps.

Day 4 nearly over and out for me! I am thinking of cigs less and less.. and any withdrawl symptoms/cravings I was feeling have pretty much gone too.. It's amazing how quick my brain has adjusted, now I know I cannot smoke, I am just getting on with life and forgetting about them!
I hope everyone else is doing well today,

I've read where they say, how you start your week is a good indicator of how the rest of your week will go. They also say that Monday is the most popular day to quit.
So, let's all begin this week with a clean slate... and do our very best to BE OUR BEST in everything we do! :l

I'm proud to say that the other day I reached my 4 year NF milestone.... this is what started my journey to reclaiming my true self.... every day I am filled with such gratitude for being given the strength to take that first step. I wouldn't be 3 years sober today if I hadn't butted out my last cig on a Monday morning back in July of 2006.

Today can be YOUR day... we have the choice to make it whatever we choose.

Today I choose to Live, Love & Learn.... to live fully from the heart & experience all of God's wonderous gifts.
What do you choose for your day?
