Good idea with the patches.. you can wean yourself off them gradually.. and yes, i think getting rid of associations with smoking is a good start too - such as the tea replacing coffee idea.. also try the 4D's: Delay, Drink water, Do something else, and Deep breathe.. it sounds like you are very determined and that is a great first step! xxx

OMG!! Over 8 euros a pack in Dublin?!!! They have really gone up since I lived there. But that was before we changed to the euro. No, this expense is just ridiculous. Such a waste and all it's doing is slowly killing me. Going AF in some ways was easier because I knew just a few hours of drinking could make me do something stupid. Like calling up my ex's parents --crying and telling them how miserable their son has made my life. And not being 100% sure of exactly everything I said. YUCK. But I need to look at the long term with the cigs and know that it is dangerous in its own way too.

expat.. i know what you mean about the drinking and doing/saying stupid things (which is why most of us are here!) - in particular after my ex "got away" with the assault charge against me, i was so depressed i got drunk and texted all his family (the women) about how disgusted i was in them all for standing by my ex throughout it all.. yes, it made me feel good at the time, but its still a bad idea!
Definately look at the horrible health implications with smoking to get you motivated.. i dont need to list them all here, as im sure you know them! but its a great motivator.. the good thing is, your body starts to repair and replenish the moment you quit.. you know you can do this, we are right behind you! yes its been tough, but going on to Day 6 tomorrow, i couldn't be happier and want you to feel the same freedom i do! xxx"It works if you work it, because you are worth it!!!"

You know Katie--about the texting or calling our ex's families--I know deep down I had a very good reason to do it as you probably did too. If I had done it sober that would have been ok but doing it buzzed and weepy just made ME look like the drunken nut. I am so happy getting my self-respect back. Even though that ass made my life miserable. And he was abusive too. His parents know that but I guess to a certain extent, family stands by family. So, now on to the NO SMOKING!!! Thanks for all the support you have been giving. Thanks to you too Oney!

Hello Expat, Katie, Oney!
Two weeks and 287 cigs not smoked! After 35+ years of smoking and several quit attemps, I can't believe I'm finally doing this. I guess the combination of Chantix, Alan Carr's Easy Way, the MWO nutritional program, and this thread are what I need. One of the things I like best is no longer stinking up my house with the cig smoke. Thanks for being here you guys!

Congrats Pie!! Two weeks is incredible. And you were a pretty heavy smoker like me. It gives me hope! I have weaned down to about five cigs per day from over a pack. I need to re-read this thread from the start and get ready to stop altogether. I hope its going ok for you too KatieB. :goodjob:

No More Butts...The Beginning..
Good morning Butt-Kickers,
I'm disappointed to say I caved in to my craving last night, and smoked two cigarettes. Ready to climb back up on the wagon today and move forward. Maybe this time next year I'll be free, and Chill will come over and dance in my garden!

SHit Pie - He really is a persistant little f**ker!!!
Ok you fed him 2 fixes so he will have a bit of his strength back so you need to be ready for the next assault. When the voice starts you must go :lalala: and tell him your not listening to a word that comes out of his rat droppings excuse for a mouth. Get mad at him, really mad, tell him to shut the F up. Its your body and you are not using it to feed his disgusting looser little addiction. If he still doesnt shut up then slug him one! :H"In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer ."

Hi expat, So glad you're still staying strong! I'm not giving up either. The thought of having to repeat this process helped me get back on track. Actually, my feeling is that if I don't stay quit this time, I'll live as a nicotine addict forever. Not a pretty picture.
Chill, you're a hoot! And so very kind to pop in on this thread to help us battle the fecking nicodemon! Hey, is that your dancing partner over on the Tigger thread? Feel free to bring him with you to my garden party!

Just checking in to report another smoke-free day. Cigs not smoked so far: 388. Most of the time I feel quite calm and comfortable. Blissful even. But during cravings, I feel high anxiety and a sensation of suffocating, that nicodemon tells me will be eased if I smoke a cigarette. What keeps me going during these times is the knowledge that the craving will pass; it will subside; it won't go on forever. So I think my long-term success in this quit will be the result of the number of times I can say to myself, "This WILL pass," without caving. Simple enough, right? We'll see...

Hey Pie,
Congrats on a smoke-free day! I give an amazing amount of credit to people that can go cold turkey. I've quit a few times in my life (the longest period for three years), and always have had to use the patch to titrate down off nicotine. The only time I could cold turkey it was when I was in jail (no choice there!)
I started the patch on July 10, last smoked a ciggie on July 15th, and now I'm on a 1/2-patch for another week or so, then a quarter-patch, then off! Looking forward to being nicotine free by this time next month.
