Ok basic questions, I done tech support for years.. don't know if this is still the case but are the cds you use have a - or a + on them oh and make sure they are cd's and not dvd's.
I know you are not silly, but it may have been overlooked

Does that still matter these days? Suppose it depends on the age of the drive.

Not sure, been ages since I bought a CD, its the only thing I can think of if its rejecting the discs

They are defo CD-R's but where do I look for the a+ orA-??

It just spits it out and says insert a writable cd? mmm the answer could be there, -rw would be better
