BRANDED AN ALCOHOLIC FOR LIFE.NEW NAME :)

We are alcoholics and it is a horrid name,
it takes a hell of a lot for any of us to admit it..

coz it has such a bad mental image and stigma attached..!

but when we start to get better, we are told we will always be alcoholics till the day we die..

basically coz there is not another word to call us..

    I personally hate it..

coz I am proud of what I have done and many of you are the same..

and many are struggling to get there,

but it infuriates me that our brand name never changes..

    SO.........

I have come up with a new name for what I feel I am and we are..
it is so much more a positive "label" for us I think.....

    ALCOHOLABSENTEE.......??????

    Wot do you reckon..???

I would agree that it takes a hell of a lot to admit to being an alcoholic, but doing so started me down the path to a quality sobriety. So, I understand your point completely, but prefer to think of myself as a recovered alcoholic (a label that I am 100% okay with).

Probably just a lot of semantics, but as Popeye would say "I am what I am...", and it sounds a lot better then 'ex Gordon's [vodka] Guy!"

excatly WHY I thought the name ..
coz recovering means your not there you have not achieved abstinence...in my mind..

but when we abstain.. which is what we do when we stop..
there is no word for that..
            there is a difference..

            so alcoholabsentee..

dunno I just dont like the label alcoholic..........forever.....
            coz it does change
            and we do change
            so the name should change...

I am a husband, a father, a bother and a son. I dont feel the need for any more labels. 'I dont drink' is all people who ask need to know. We are all entitled to our privacy as in any other aspect of our lives, our relationship with AL is our business. Just my thoughts on it.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

                              I like the I don't drink option.

                              Not...

                              I cannot drink
                              I dare not drink
                              I gave up drink
                              I am "off" the drink
                              I am unable to drink

Simply "I do not drink" will suffice for me....and it's the truth to boot!
