Underoos and Friends - June
Hello Underoos. I am guilty of lurking on your site, because I love your humour. However, when the subject became white sheets, I have to weigh in.
Tawny, I thought I was the only one who has white sheet issue. I was gifted with a set of Irish Linen sheets from my first marriage - don't even ask when.
Then polyster, non-wrinkle stuff came in, ouch.
So far most of my adult life I have bought white sheets with the highest thread count I could afford, and love them. Funnily enough 20 years ago in TX people weren't talking thread count, so I was able to gobble up some at discount stores.
I had to stay at my dil's home for a while with about a 70% poly count, and I have to say. I slept in a chair. Sounds like I'm a princess, but I'm not, just love cool white cotton to go to dreamland with.

Hey SK & Tawns,
I have a friend that is so obsessed, she's been to every auction in the country and has an entire linen cupboard full of antique white cotton sheets. She can't stand anything else but those lovely old HEAVY thick cotton starched sheets.
Tis understood - we all have our quirky obsessions and I think this one is a very nice one

Hubby asks me to do it. Cindi
I once asked one of my best man friends for some advice about my car and he replied "go ask my wife, i always do, she's the one who always fixes the tractor, the chainsaw or pretty much anything mechanical that stops, i wouldn't have a clue".
But when it comes to newfangled technology... well i can work it out eventually but much faster to ask someone who has already got HD eh! :H Besides, the man i asked is a computer tech wiz but completely hands off in all other practical matters.. can not bang a nail, can not make a fence, can not look under car bonnet.. go figure

OMG - I thought I was the only person with this obsession.
I lived in Paris for a year and didn't have a washing machine. Did most of the normal washing at the local laundrette, but sheets (all white and high thread count) went to a commercial laundry for washing starching and pressing. I was allowed to do it every week (company paid). It was heaven.
I also have Irish linen (table cloths and serviettes) that came from my father's ancestors. Is stunning, but I cant afford to get it laundered. I use it once or twice a year, and then throw it in the washing machine, but I would love to know how to look after it properly.
Polyester is awful.
What do we think of flannelet though?? :H:H Mr B quite attached to it, but I would rather stick to cotton and and extra duvet!Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn

Great I am delighted Fickle, hope you find some information.
I have just been looking at the census from 1911 and showing my son the form filled out by his great great grandfather, kinda strange to see his handwriting. Eleven of them living in two rooms yet every one could read and write, all the kids from aged 14 had left school and were working.Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Flanellette? GACK!
Laundered, starched and ironed sheets in Paris? I think I may just faint.
If you think flannelet is gack, I haven't told you yet that the said sheets are red. We keep them because Mr B likes them and in the "which would you give away first?" stakes he comes out on top.
KTAB: My family (at least my fathers branch of it!) came out here in 1879. From Clonmel in Tipperary, via Liverpool. But that cxn is one of the reasons why I feel right at home in the Army!!! (and have I mentioned that I did the Dublin marathon in 1988?)Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn

I am now feeling DEEPLY inadequate in the sheet department. But I like my bed and sleep well so hey ho.
Been thundering and lightning for AGES now but no rain action.
Have had a nice afternoon bonding over funny Youtube videos with Teen2. I take what i can get.
Going to sign the apartment lease tomorrow, major cold feet but I'm always the same.
Bets.
