    Army Thread 7 June

That makes me miss summer nice pic
    AF since 15th March 2010

The journey is the goal. As long as you're fighting the good fight and you're not giving up on giving up, you're winning. It's not about how often you get knocked down, it's about how often you get up again. Sobriety the goal for sure. But striving to get to that goal is what it's about. Not getting there. Because the journey never ends. The journey is the goal.

Don't get me started on weddings and such. The "in thing" for weddings over here is that you have the wedding and reception at one of the "estates". Basically what and "estate" is, is that someone has bought this chunk of land - about 4 acres - and has had part of it landscaped and then built a small chapel and a reception area - almost always with a pool (can't figure that out because my bet is neither the bride nor groom nor their expensively dressed guests would go for a dip). They rent out the "estate" at a certain price depending on what type of food you want - all catered of course - usually buffet and maybe four or five long tables with different kinds of food. We once went to one that you had your choice of Greek, Italian, Japanese and BBQ or all of the above. Of course there is unlimited drinks - wine, beer, and champagne for toasts to the bride and groom and music - usually a DJ. A couple of years ago younger son had a friend who had his wedding at one of these places - the families of the bride and groom shared the expenses and each family forked out 25,000 euro for wedding expenses.
Another girl I know got married a few years ago and decided to do an "economic" package. She rented her bridal gown for a mere 1500 euro, the photo album and video of the wedding just for her and her husband, not the parents albums, etc. cost another 1500 and the reception at one of the local restaurants (taverna) in her home town cost a total of 15000 for the 300 guests.
I almost hope my sons never get married...

What is that up in the top left corner? It looks like a small statue or something of a dog...
And your grass is gorgeous. Ours has a ton of weeds and clover growing in it

It's a statue of a dog pretending to dig a hole.

50,000 Euros? That's flipping crazy. you could buy a house for that (well not quite but almost).

and even the budget option. shew... don't think our wedding cost close to that. that's crazy

i agree, rather not get married then

Is Black Bess on a diet now, JC?

She's beautiful though, and so is your garden - I'm green with envy.

You have to use coarsely ground white maize mealiemeal. That usually has to be "imported" from the north, so I only get it about 4 times a year. Braaipap (the brand) will do, but has a fair whack of yellow maize in it.

Next: time, and more time. Good pap is like tantric sex - never hurry it along, but the results will be gratifying.

Butter: the real stuff, salted. Huge dollops, allowed to melt into the simmering, steaming pap.

A can of sweetcorn about halfway through cooking: gives a lovely moist texture and adds a nice bit of contrast.

Wanna hear about the sauce now???
