    Today I made some progress.

This evening I went to my first AA meeting. I pulled up around the corner and was nervous as hell. I went in, I listened, I shared and it felt good. 20 days of sobriety will be complete when I go to sleep this evening. Only a short while to go and then tomorrow is another day.

          Today I made some progress.

Well done Johnny!! As for having the support of those around us, you are quite right I believe that for some, the very fact that we are facing our addiction and issues with alcohol head on, does make some uncomfortable with their own thoughts about alcohol in their own lives. And for others, I think that they just do not understand alcoholism.

But, what I have discovered over time is this. Patience truly reaps huge rewards!! We may have a time frame for others to be able to support and accept the New US, but their comfort zone and time frame might be completely different. I believe that we have to let our actions and behavior speak for us!
I found that after 6-9 months of sobriety, people around me began to remark about the changes in me. Some had no idea of my issues with alcohol or that I had stopped!

As for the "label" alcoholic. Like DG, the day that I finally accepted this "Alergy to Alcohol" and set about overcoming it, was the day that my life completely turned around! I also accept that I will never be cured, just as I will never be cured of my extreme allergy to Bee Stings! Neither allergy makes me a bad person, but either allergy could kill me! I just stay clear of bees and keep an epi pen on me and I also stay clear of alcohol!

          Wishing you continued success, Johnny!!
