Army Thread 16 July
Hey all, just checking in. Hope everyone is well. I am having a busy day and more to do yet so won't hand around for long. Wanted to share two things which have happened today. The first was on the tube, A guy yelled at a lady to get into the tube cause the doors were shutting. Admittedly it was not a very appropriate way to 'advise' someone but he seemed to me to have a minor learning difficulty and my guess is his heart was in the right place. Initially I just observed but then mutters of complaint could be heard from other passengers, to which the man in question remonstrated. Not wanting to be 'against' the guy I suggested he relaxed calmly and made good eye contact so he could see I was a friend but by this stage he was on the defensive and he remonstrated further. In hindsight I should have told the other passengers to leave him alone as I thought he only meant well, I did gently do this as I exited the tube but perhaps it was too little too late, I hope the rest of their journey was better. Conclusion; It takes a quick mind, deep and accurate insight, and the ability to direct focus correctly to help in a conflict. It is important to focus suggestions on parties who are not in a defensive posture.
Second thing, some workmen outside my brothers house had left a job incomplete and I could not get my car into the drive. I needed to do this as we are doing some work on it the weekend. I asked them to remedy the situation, which they could have but I was met with a degree of bad attitude, I will happily admit that I may have come across as frustrated with them at first which may have been a catalyse for their reaction, the point is I felt myself getting angry with them and decided to just leave it and forget about getting the work done until next week as I could see they had no intention of helping. Conclusion; If you want something, make sure you ask super nicely, as it is I was left feeling responsible for some of the negativity, despite the fact they were in the wrong.
Anyway, just venting a little, hope that's OK on this thread! Feel better for it. Catch y'all later.
Johnny."The greatest hazard of all, losing one?s self, can occur very quietly in the world, as if it were nothing at all. No other loss can occur so quietly; any other loss - an arm, a leg, five dollars, a wife, etc. - is sure to be noticed." Soren Kierkegaard.

The addiction has struck again (NO, NOT AL, DON'T WORRY). Here I was, just checking a couple of pm's, responding to my birthday thread and I have now found myself lurking around most afternoon. Argh......
I'll still be taking it easy for a couple more days. But thought it wrong not to post seeing that i'm hanging around in anycase
Had a good, productive week this week and really got a lot of work done. it really makes a difference unfortunately not spending as much time here.
I miss you all a lot though
Sooooo.... anyone around?!AF since 15th March 2010
The journey is the goal. As long as you're fighting the good fight and you're not giving up on giving up, you're winning. It's not about how often you get knocked down, it's about how often you get up again. Sobriety the goal for sure. But striving to get to that goal is what it's about. Not getting there. Because the journey never ends. The journey is the goal.
