How do you feel about non-alcoholic beer?

Is it a good substitute or a dangerous flirtation?
Go before that fire there, at the altar of your heart
That fire of who you really are and be consumed by it fully
Surrender everything into the fire of that love until you are one with that love. You ARE that love.

    Hi Phoenix,
Very quick answer from me. I used to drink for the buzz not the taste.

So for me it would be dangerous flirtation.

I would have to agree. Too much familiarity to the real thing.

Yes, Pheonix, if it's the taste, OK. But it is NOT AL free. And it has a lot of the same drawbacks, like fattening, a bit of AL, a reminder.
It's very hard to completely quit something, I know. I'm struggling now with Diet Coke! But sometimes it's the only way, if we want it totally out of our lives. It, for me, is TOO big a reminder.

          Hi Phoenix,

You'll be putting unnecessary extra strain on your mental battle with al, because the taste association will not have been broken, but try it, and you be the judge.

          Best wishes.

            Hi phoenix rising
In my opinion you are only flirting with danger,The taste, the memories could all start massive triggers & cravings, most of us here drank for what the drink did for us as in buzz or getting out of it,so why tempt yourself, you dont need it,there are lots of other drinks you can get,:-)

How do you feel about non-alcoholic beer?

For me it would simply be an ugh. I hate beer, I have always hated beer. For others, it would be a huge trigger to get the real thing.

              It is up to you.

I tried AF wine and it was worse than just drinking good quality grape juice.

Nothing replaces the want, though. Nothing.

The want gets less over time.

              (except maybe chocolate.. lol)

                Hey phoenix,

I have been tempted to buy some in the past but I am going to stick to the advise given on this thread. I also posted a while back whether I should or not...and decided not to. Everyone said NO and they are right.

Like Jackie Claire, I drank for the buzz so it will only tempt me to go and and get the real mcoy.

You always have the right words, at the right time. YES, our other addictions take over. Right now, it's still diet caffeine free coke.
And YES! Why drink the nasty crap when it's not altering our mood. Water is just as good. We can only fool ourselves for so (not) long!
                      Love you.

I quite like them, sort of cleansing. I read somewhere that bread contains similar trace amounts of alcohol so you cannot totally avoid the stuff.

Wow, overwhelmingly against. That was sort of my thought, too. Like one taste and I'd want the buzz. I have been drinking a lot of club soda lately. It very refreshing and very fizzy, sort of like a beer. And shitloads of tea!!

Especially early in sobriety you want to avoid any cues or situations which might create cravings. We want to remove the entire habit. I would encourage you, untill you were securely abstinent, to avoid this product. If after a time you enjoyed it without undue distress I would say fine. I have had this in the past and it usually did not lead to "real" booze, but for now am avoiding it on advice of rehab specialist and the people on this forum.
                            Good luck

I tried this in the beginning and it wasn't long before I was going through 10 or 12 O'Douls a night. So not only was it costing me the same as when I was drinking but I was in the same habit as when I was drinking a 12 pack of Heineken a night. I switched to Snapple Green Tea and even drank 6 of them a night. After a while I got fed up getting out of bed every five minutes to go to the bathroom and managed to wean myself off.

So... I would not recommend this.
