Hi MB - my kitchen counters are pink sort of granite looking - but Vicks - that counter top is super! It is pretty quiet on here today isn't it? I had all manner of plans and have ended up doing nothing. Well, I did hang some washing out and filled the birdfeeder......
Hugs, Sun xxHow simple it is to see that we can only be happy now and there will never be a time when it is not now....

I've heard it covered by many artists, Jan. I'm so into true bluegrass now, and of course, Johnny Cash. And I have to support my friend's little boy, Alan Jackson. He has a knack for singing about what's going on in real life, and 'Sissy's Song', 'Where Were You' are 2 of my favs. I like going back to the songs I heard in my youth (yes, Tony, I CAN remember that far!:H). Joe South touched my heart, and Guthrie. I'll never forget the first time I heard the Beatles, on Ed Sullivan. Had never reacted to music like that. But I was raised with the plinky old pianos and who-ever was leading the singing in an old country church. 'Farther Along' will always be one of my favorites, like the one I posted, 'Daddy's Hands'. That has SUCH a deep meaning for me, since I remember his big knarled hands, and an old preacher Daddy loved spoke at his funeral, just before the song was played, and without knowing that song was next, broke into tears when he spoke of the last time he spoke with Daddy. He said Daddy reached out his giant hands to him, and he broke down as he described their last prayer together, holding hands.
Again, didn't mean to get off on a tangent, but music is SO important in my life, and makes me feel things, remember things, like nothing else. I'm sorry if I offend, but don't consider Rap to be music, more a poetry of hard times, but the filthy language and denegration of women is intolerable. And music that is loud and raucous doesn't do a thing for me.
Many consider the Psalms of the Bible as songs. They are beautifully written. I love playing the piano, the dulcimer, and learning the mandolin. If ONLY these old fingers were more flexible!sigpic

I agree with you about Rap...
I used to sign with an old rock, blues band. I took vocal lessons for years and was hired to sing at weddings, parties, bars and even sing Amazing Grace at a funeral.
I miss my music..as I have had kids, built a career and just dealt with life, it has gotten away from me.
I was the lead in many musicals, including Miss Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls", and 'South Pacific".
I never learned to play piano and that is one of my biggest regrets.
I loved singing to my babies...I still do!!I love my family more than alcohol.:h

Oh, Jan, I sound like a cat in heat when I sing! Would love to have EmmyLou Harris' voice. My grand, AB, sings in public, has sung whole songs since she could talk, and I SO encourage her, well all of them. Thinking of asking daughter to enroll Ry in violin lessons and I'll pay for them and by him an instrument. Don't know why, just have a feeling. He is so much more sensitive and gentle than AB and Jack (Jack protects him like a bear, though Ry's almost a year older). That's him with his sweet little angel face in my current avatar.sigpic

Hi everyone you HD is back and it was an intresting weekend to say the least. I have had a small set back Yes I had one drink. Here is the scoop and what I learned. Whent to dinner Saterday night in George Town Basin. The Granery if anyone know it great place. We were seated and before we got menus Brian the (BT) sent over two vodka martines and two sodas for the kids. At that moment I did not need one however I decided to have it. I then went to Brian and told him I am tryong to be AF His reaction was not what I thought it would be. He said thats cool Mike I know the feeling been ther done that............ hmmmmm wonder what he ment. Anyway we put in our appatisers and whent on with the meal and to my surprise another drink came I told waitress NO take it back she said the owner comped us. I said I am willing to pay but I don't want to Drink. So you might ask what did I learn from this minor set back well here is what I learned about myself
1. I don't need to drink
2. I have controll of my habit and that is a good thing
3. I now know for sure that I must set my life to be AF for the rest of my life and I can do it.
4. As either IDA or ruby said and your right my body reacted right away to 1 drink
5. My body, sleep, B.S., feeling are effected by AL
In hind sight I think this set back was healthy, my wife and kids were inpressed with me saying NO to the second as I could have easely had three or more. I try to always be possative in my thinking this proved everything to me no more questions about after 30 days try and regulate That is not going to happen. Sunshine I must start the book now was going to wait untill next week when I am on Vacation in a dry town. After this it is time. Time to shift the gears permintley!!! Hope everyone had a safe and great week end,

WONDERFUL, Biz! Your on track!!
Jodiex, YES, all have been there, at least me! We have to learn not to feel deprived. Read (and re-read) the post after yours. Relish, enjoy, your sobriety!! It DOES get easier. And people will understand and respect you. If they don't, then they don't truly care about you.
And WELCOME here. What can I do for you, to help you?? This is a very loving, caring group, and you are welcome to be our family too.sigpic

Welcome back Biz - so pleased that it turned out the way it did - that was so good that you said no to the 2nd drink - I am really impressed. I am not sure I could have done the same thing!! Good for you......
Jodie - welcome here and yes, we all have felt like that too. It really is hard especially when you remember that feeling when you have a drink - but try and think past that to the next morning!! Hang in here and read, or post - go to chat - anything to take your mind off it. Or, you could just go to bed - that is what I did some nights when i really wanted a drink! Hang in there, you can get through this - as Ruby said, read Biz's post under yours!!
Hugs to all, Sun xxHow simple it is to see that we can only be happy now and there will never be a time when it is not now....
