    Changes Made

    Hi

I just thought i would post this for myself to look back on, i've been struggling a bit with cravings these last couple of days and thought if i recorded what changes i've made and how much better i feel since becoming AF it would keep me on track. If anyone would like to add any then feel free, it's all for the good

    1. Changed the way i shop, Don't go to the supermarket when AL can be sold if i need anything in these times i either do without or send my OH.
    2. Stayed away from social events that i can "get out" of.
    3. Changed the people i socialise with.
    4. I have become quite selfish in maintaining my sobriety meaning if people don't like that i don't want to go out and have become "boring" then that's their problem not mine, i will do anything to keep this going and if that means losing friends that were drinking buddies then so be it. My priority is to look after me!
    5. Learned to spend more time actually listening to what my family are talking about and enjoyed that time instead of thinking when i can get my next fix or being too drunk to remember.
    6. Sticking to my plan when cravings like these ones kick in.
    7. Keep calm and do something to distract myself when cravings hit.
    8. Redecorated the room i spent most of my time drinking in. (change of surroundings) including moving my PC to a different room to break the association.
    9. Spend more time doing one day of batch cooking instead of cooking every night when witching hour approaches and i opened that bottle.

that's all i can think of just now but will add more as i learn. :thanks:

That is a fantastic list, Talula.
Here's one I use if I can't get out of a social event. Arrive late, leave early.

              Hi All
Tula your list is exactly what is required to get al out of your life. Everyone of your points I followed in my early days of the fight. Yes be selfish in regards to what is needed for your sobriety. Think of your self first at this time. It will change and get easier as you get more AF time.

                Hi Talula,
Great post and a very cool plan.
Breaking associations with AL is important to me too, and if friends don't like you sober, they're not really friends and you can do without them. There's so much more to life than pleasing other people.

Those are some good changes. When I am going AF I think of a list of reasons why not to drink. And when I do drink I aim to not spend all of my money and to watch what I drink. Your doing a great job and I hope to someday change from Modding to quitting drinking altogether.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

I like your plan Talula. Stick to your guns! I ditto the "arrive late, leave early" plan for social events with AL when you CAN'T get out of them. I also always eat (lots) before I go. Maybe it's just me, but I'm less inclined to be attracted to AL on a fully tummy. So wonderful to hear you are more engaged with your family. I bet they love it!
