What was an unexpected benefit of quitting AL?

Not just the obvious ones, the ones that really took you by surprise.

Mine was - my face! I assumed the changes in my face were due to aging, but now that I have quit, my skin look amazing and I don't have bags under my eyes anymore! All this while I attributed it to getting older, little did I know I was pickling my skin! :H

P.R. I know exactly what you mean. I took a picture of myself the morning after the last night I drank as reminder of the havoc AL reeks on your looks. The other area is the tummy. When I was drinking I was developing quite the wine belly, that no amount of exercise or dieting would get rid of. And fat from drinking takes on a distinct shape. Now that I have over 3.5 months AF the tummy is almost gone. Before I just assumed it was a part of being middle aged. I never want to see that gelatinous mass again!

Phoenix - I swear I look 5 years younger than I did this time last year..... I was permanently dehydrated. I still smile in the bathroom mirror every morning when i see bright eyes instead of bloodshot tired ones

Me too! I can't believe how fresh my eyes and skin look everyday. No black bags, no dry/red areas or spots. I've had quite a few people tell me how young I look.

It has definitely been a self esteem boost I didn't realise I was going to get.

Need to calm down on the chocolate though or else I'll just get fat again!

I was a bit shocked to find out that my life was really NOT a depressing hell hole. Well, it was but ONLY due to my own drinking. I thought I drank because my life sucked. Who knew my life sucked because I drank????

I can read a book in bed without having to read it again the following day because I forgot ............

and I can brush my teeth in the morning without heaving ......... (and I do actually brush them every morning now):blush:

My first thought in the morning not being "UGH".
