KTAB;955319 wrote: Hi guys, agree 100% Reginald, hence my never posting a picture and trying to keep certain personal items personal here...........or it could just be my paranoia............na its the stigma that surrounds it, which when you think about it is bloody ironic when I consider the amount of people I know of that drink like a fish every weekend in a 'social' setting and find it totally acceptable to get pissed. Not to mention the quantity of off licence sales increases here because people cant afford the pub as much.
AHhhhh that feels better.
God, where I come from there are worryingly few degrees of separation between people.

The even more ironic thing is, and maybe its only my perception, but that someone who is always in the pub is seen as a heavy drinker but thats ok, yet some one who is seen as a member of AA is somehow a lesser breed, one who couldnt handle it and is therefore somehow not trustworthy in so much as they may implode at any minute. Not to mention the inherent weakness in their character to havent gotten themselves so bad that they had to stop, seek help and never be able to be a 'proper' part of the social scene again. The poor loves....Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Having said the 'A' word, one might have to DO summat about it .....eh ?
I used to crawl up the stairs , pulling myself up from bannister to bannister. I was 15. My parents used to hear ( and smell) me and say "Have a nice time at the cinema, Bridge ?"

Or maybe KTAB, just maybe the fellas at AA threaten to expose the real story of the others fellas at the pub drinking themselves into a stupor on a regular basis who are suffering and just havent suffered quite enough to down tools and reach for help as well. The discomfort that drinkers feel when faced with people who admit to being alcohol dependant may come from a quiet unspoken fear in themselves that perhaps they should have a look at their own levels and patterns of drinking or maybe another addiction even...it could be gambling for instance....any number of addictive behaviours....we are all flawed each and every one of us....but very few of us have what it takes to admit, much less the courage to take the life changing steps to remedy our situations and heal our wounded soulsI am a part of the family of humanity. Yep. I won't be the 'head in the sand' parents that mine were.
Mind you, he's got a good deal of 'form' about him. I know he's going to be up for it anytime now.
Some may say that I deserve that :HIf your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

I am DREADING the teenage years guys....My eldest is only 10 but is a little advanced mentally (not physically- he is a squidge like his Mum).
I will find it very difficult letting go and allowing them out and then, the drinking and the drugs etc....uurrgggghhhh nightmare...
I suppose all I can do is love them, advise them and hopefully give them some values. I just hope none of them go off the rails."It's not your job to like me, it's mine!"
