This is birch tree on the banks of the creek at our farm, next to Daddy's old cabin. Not a great tree to start with, nearly 30 years ago, Daddy pampered it, propped it up when the creek rose, even though it wasn't much more than a sapling. Over time, when Daddy couldn't do his house moving anymore, he spent all his time here, tinkering, making a playset for his grand and greatgrand children. Eventually, he couldn't do that anymore, and we did it. Two weeks before he died, he caught a fish in this stream, from his golfcart, since he was too week to walk. He was thrilled.
Two years later the land passed equally to his 3 children. (I won't go in to how that happened.) We 'shared' the upkeep, with Hubs and I spending at least 1 or 2 days a month working there. My Daddy adored him; it was an mostly unspoken thing between them, sometimes the best. The tree had grown so, and leaned so, it was held up by a timber where it spread over.
This last year has been a hard one on the tree. Floods, backed up water, has worked at its roots. The timber was giving. Finally, a few weeks ago, Hubs and I decided to remove the timber, mostly. The tree had had the time to grow and support itself. We removed the dead limbs, checked the roots, and decided he was good to stay on his own. This is the result.

I take up your time with my personal thoughts to make a point. Something thought useless, that is cared for, tended, loved, sometimes finds it's own way to hold it's own. If God gave our tree this strength, could He have done less for any of us. It doesn't happen overnight. We had to give tree support, for years. Now he shades us when we're there. And is a beautiful thing for all his struggles.

What a beautiful story, Ruby, and so true. We all need love & support & cared for even when we've been the one to do all the loving, supporting & caring for others. Roger-you have us to lean on - we will do whatever we can to support you. I don't want you feeling lost - do you know how much you have helped me - and others - here? I am coming up on my 1 year anniversary AF and there is no way in heck that I could have done it without you and the other wonderful people here - no way. I have been thru some really tough times and when I wanted to drink to numb my feelings, I came here and read your posts, your story. It would be so easy for me to take a drink - my hubby drinks every single night and he drinks the same thing I used to. Sometimes he starts drinking as early as 11am on weekends....he wouldn't care if I took that drink...he doesn't care that I'm almost a year sober. He would be happy if I started drinking again. But I'm not going to...people depend on me - I depend on me. My sweet granddaughter & beautiful daughter depend on me.

Whew-where did that come from? Guess it's been building up - but the point I'm trying to make (I think) is that maybe in our daily life we don't really have anyone close to us who understands what we are going thru....but we have each other here and yes, even though we can't reach out and physically touch each other, my heart has been touched by all of you. Roger-I need you, WE need you. Let us help.

yeah thats no good Biz. ..hey T I know sometimes I get tired sitting around and waiting for something to happen and trying everything to make it happen but nothing happening. Then just tired all that energy out and feel like drinking, well sooner or later something happens. things are slow all over. maybe drive over to Naples and look for some biz, its not far i used to go over there when I lived down there. lotsa moola in that city..Sun this is the place to rant dont be sorry about it, we all get that way. mb glad you are doing better..grateful how many chickens do you have? mine raise the roof if I don't get up and let them out. OK, I've had a vent on chat with a couple of friends, should be out working with my sweet Hubs, so I'm outta here, really. But friends, each of us is a part of this wheel. And everyone who's out there, looking for a place to land, you are welcome here. When one person needs more support, that's where we turn, but we are all important. As I said, sometimes we have no other place to feel included, understood, without judgement. We each have to find our way. I'm struggling financially, too, but not on the levels some others are. And I'm struggling emotionally now, in my own way. Such is life. But it's the one thing that is really ours, so let's make it the best one. Maybe our environment makes it hard, so we fight harder, but in our gentle, self-assured way, that we have a place, support, friends, who understand us. Be good to yourselves and your bodies today.

How awesome your daughter adopted one of them! I really wish I could adopt another one for my little boy, he needs a brother. Well maybe one day Mom might find a husband! I would love that.

Good Morning everyone - as usual lately it seems, on my working days, don't have much time - rog, I am sorry that you are so down - did you see MY vent? Here is a great place to do it!! I do understand how you must feel, times right now are so bad - not that helps when it is you who is having the problem. MB had a great suggestion - maybe you could consider that? In the meantime, go out and wrestle a few crocs - or gators? I think some are somewhere and others are somewhere else (I am sure you understand that) LOL. MB - glad that you are feeling better. Biz - hope you listened to the wise wisdom of everyone here (golly aren't I good with words this morning?). Grateful, I think you say such wonderful things in your posts....

I am feeling better this morning - funny how things often seem better the next day isn't it? anyway have to go and get my food ready (why do I have to take SO much food with me that it take SO long to get it ready I ask myself?), so am going to go and get ready for the yucky mid shift. Over, the one with curls is adopted, but first he was fostered, and had suffered 2 lifetimes when we got him. Now he's ours, and he nows it. He's the one we'll be visiting for grandparent's day, and we're so PROUD of our gifted, loving little boys.
Sunny, good news. You blew the stink off, and feel better.
Let's all keep turning loves.

well im back and well god rain on me and saw the storm coming my way and headed in before but still got caught in it and had to pull under a dock and hangout untill the coast was clear.. was surpose stay out there till 5 or so ... but it was fun and no gators guess they dont get the lunch i pack them .. coffeecake and boat paddles and maybe next time ill have a new pair of gator boots ...and thank you grateful the call and i have to say the canoe handle the intercoastal very well even with all the boats making waves and my 35lbs trust trolling motor just coasting along .. and theres always tomorrow ..
