I've been here a while but would like some support
:thanks::thanks:As you can see from "member date" I've been on this site a while. I've tried everything from antabuse to baclofen. All I need right now is "That a girl, you can do it!" Of course a little tough love ever hurt nobody.

Oney, you have to lay off those chips! Thanks so much for the support. I'm finally ready. Thanks, Pops, I needed to see that avatar. I feel so blessed to have friends pulling for me from Ireland and Pops, where are now?!
Oney, Please tell me how you got through the parties?

Shelbs nice to read your post. Encouragement and support is vital in a recovery so lets do this!
Come on girl you can do this!!!Be strong-
We define ourselves by the best that is in us, not the worse that has been done to us.
Be constructive. Clear the word of CAN'T

In regard to the parties Shelby.
I avoided them for the first while, as early days of sobriety are shaky enough without adding to the difficulty.
I thought i would become boring and it would be torture.
It wasn't.
Firstly, I brought my own Non Alcoholic drink with me.
I used the excuse I am on antibiotics/ a diet/ driving when people asked me why I wasn't drinking.
If you are with a friend or spouse then tell them before you go that you may feel uncomfortable around alcohol and that you need to be able to leave the party on a moment's notice without having to explain why. In fact, you can always have an alternative place to go - like for a coffee or out to a movie.
The Pressure Is Off
With this arrangement, negotiated when you arrive at the gathering, tell your host or hosts that you can probably only stay for a short time, but that you will know more in a while after you make a telephone call.
Then you are not obliged to stay and what usually happens is that you have a great time because the pressure to stay is off. If you are on your own, make sure you have your sponsor's or a sober friend's phone number and that you know they will be home so that you can call or even meet with them if you feel the need. That's "Plan B."
Avoid H.A.L.T.
H.A.L.T. stands for:
Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired
There are very simple solutions for all of the above items. If you are hungry, get something to eat. If you are angry, talk to somebody about it. If you are lonely, go to a meeting or call a friend. If you are tired, get a good nights sleep.
Be grateful for what you have by writing out a gratitude list every morning. Dont stop writing until you have at least 10 items on your list
The sober life is much more simple Shelbs GRAB it. xx"It's not your job to like me, it's mine!"

Keep going girl. Like you I tried everything including ?16K of my own plus friend's money in private treatment yet I still continued to drink.
Took a massive turn shift in my thinking to sort this one out, but do keep trying as one day it will happen.
